VIS indicator Kits.

Right I should have 10 of these made up ready for dispatch by the end of the week. They are going to come with Red and Green LEDs. Rather than the blue pictured.
The Kit consists of:
LED indicators that are mounted to the switch blank,
All the Wiring to install
Installation instructions
This kit requires you to splice into the loom for the VIS motors, splicing and soldering onto 5 colourcoded wires that will all be explained in the instructions included.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j1.../Visbuild2.jpg

They will come at a cost of ?30 inc postage. I would also be greatful if the switch blank the kit replaces can be sent back to me allowing more to be produced. ( I will include a stamped addressed envelope :))

I wont be taking payment until they are ready to go.

If those intrested could add their name to the list:

1. haGGard (neil) -------SENT
2. Smokey (Blair) -------SENT
3. Daytona365 --------- Pm sent
4. Wullie zs-180 --------SENT
5. Gavspav ------------SENT
6. Midcuk ------------- PAID
7. Blobslosak ---------- SENT(VIS+MIL)
8. *Taken* SENT

Big thanks to Murray for suppling the switch blanks :) If anyone is in a scrap yard in the near future the blanks would be much appreciated.

The Kits Ive provided I have labelled the LEDs to show which relate to which motor with masking tape.

Although for future reference if you look at the back of the kit, the LEDs on the same side as the lug thats on the connector are the connected to the power motor. If installed the right way round it should appear/opperate as below :)

I'll put my name down down for one, but does this fit to the left of steering wheel? (where the fog switches are) As i've got fog light switches there...

Heres the original thread http://www.themgzs.co.uk/vb/showthread.php?t=13015

Basically they tap into the feed from the motors and light one of 2 LEDs Red = Motor is shut, Green = Open. (one set for power one for balance motors.)

It will let you know wether the motors actuators are open or shut, which can inform you of a fault with the VIS valves. Common cause of low powered 180s.

At idle you should have 2 LED's on (one for each motor/ Red).
Plant it and BOTH LED's should swap to green.
At about 3krpm's the 1st LED should go back to red, at 4krpm's the 2nd LED should go back to red. If either LED isn't switching it indicates that the retrospective motor is broken. :)

Will be doing a write up to fully explain the Indicators, so people know exactly how they show work when the VIS are fully operational :)

Jay-ZS+ 16-08-10 03:54 PM

Have updated post #1 with a diagram of how the Indicators work if the VIS motors are fully functional :)

wullie-zs180 21-08-10 10:36 AM

got them on tuesday all fitted just the wiring part to do wish me luck:book::yikes::wall::wall::wall:

Jay-ZS+ 21-08-10 10:43 AM

Good luck, one thing that I missed in the instructions, there appear to be 2 black wires in the loom, either will do its only the negative return to battery :)

Marky Mark 21-08-10 11:20 AM

Jay, it's good of you to spend your own time sorting out the vis indicators for peeps.

Well Done mate!! :mbounce:

wullie-zs180 21-08-10 12:07 PM

Rev it and see what lights change.

At idle both red lights should be on. A rev should put both reds out and both greens on.

If a green is on at idle, it could be wired up incorrectly, or one of the motors is stuck closed.

daytona365 21-08-10 02:03 PM

Sounds like the kits are a sucess, cant wait to send you my cash so I can fit mine............Roll on pay day................

Can sit there in traffic making the lights change colour lol......:construction:

As Nor suggested take it for a run and see what happens but it sounds as if you may have discovered a fault. :construction:

blobslosak 21-08-10 03:05 PM

I have it all fitted, great kit, thanks :) and I'm 99% sure I've wired it correctly, and I'm 100% sure I have a VIS issue as I have no kick at 3k and it rattles like a bag of spanners. Anyway, this is what my lights say....

////red green green red

idle: on on off on

<3k: off on off off (i.e. plant my foot)

3k : on on off off

4.3k: on on off on

Hmmm, would appear to have issues with both motors??? reds work as they should but have one motor with the green light always on and the other always off.

Any advise? Cheers.

Yer sounds as if you have faults with both motors, Id suggest you have a read through this thread may give you some guidance of how to go about fixing them :)

From that it reads as if the balance motor is stuck closed and the power motor is stuck open.

These VIS indicators are fantastic bits of kit.

Yeah just had the balance motor unit off the car. Can move the valve arm and hear the butterfly valves open and close so maybe just a dodgy motor. Had a go at opening up the motor unit but can't see me achieving that very easily, seemed pretty solid :|

Sounds like that's the power motor you had off. Balance motor is the harder one to get to, on the side of the plenum.

blobslosak 21-08-10 04:32 PM

Sorry yeah, power motor.

Warm the unit with a hair dryer to soften up the seal, prise the lugs round the casing gently and prise up all round, it will come just go easy at it:)

daytona365 21-08-10 08:36 PM

All these flashing lights.............cant wait to get paid so i can tell you all what happens with my set..........
