The 75 and ZT club has purchased direct from MG the earliest registered Rover 75 (S525 OVP) it was used for over 10 years as the Longbridge security car.

Its replacement it the ZS it the picture. Its the last ever registered MG ZS and has the G Series Diesel Engine under the bonnet (the G series was being designed to replace the L series Diesel in the ZR and ZS)

This was an unregistered MGR test car when they went bust it also has a completely different IPK to any other ZS.

I thought it might be of intrest.

would love to have a poke around at that G-series.. was supposed to be 150bhp off the bat while in this phase of development. with phase 2 at 170, then tinkeres getting a hell of a lot more!

I amanged 160 out the L-series, but i am not finsihed as i want more :)

Getting hold of the 16v head would enable so many more ponies for us lowly 8v users... would not need to go common rail like they did either as we dont care about emissions lool.

That instrument cluster looks very similar to the new TF one, albeit a Rover flavoured one. Imagine a MG version in black and you'll see what I mean. I assume the central screen is where the coolant warning etc. etc. is?

Might try to blag a closer look at this when I'm next at Longbridge.

I saw it when I went there a couple of times in August. It just pounds round the site all day.

Cool, they use in along with the MG Rexton, don't they? I'm a journo for MG Enthusiast amongst others, and I'm trying to arrange another trip to Longbridge.

The Rexton is now in the Desposal Yard with 4 Flat Tyres awaiting the Crusher

Oh really? I wish MG would reply to my chuffing emails! It's one of the cars I wanted a closer look at.

Its the longbridge security car. They used to use the S plate 75 that the 75/ZT club saved until the fuel pump died in it, then hey used the rexton and now that ZS.

Reason its got odd wheels is because they get that many puctures around the site its quicker to just pick up a new wheel out of storage and fit that than find someone to fit a new tyre.

IPK looks interesting though as it rover branded. Must of been the next dial set destined for the 45?

the instrument panel is a bit nasty!! Are the headlamps different? Looks like HID's which, to my knowledge, were never an option on the Mk1 or Mk2....

Does that mean free road tax?

Believe because the engine was not put into production as such. It would not have had to meet the required regs for emissions so prob not recorded.

The G-series was just a heavily re-worked L-series so yeah would be 8V. Wonder if it's quieter as thats the only thing that let the L-series down in the modern diesel market.

According to Rincewind the G series was quieter than both the L Series used in the ZR, ZS and the M47R used in the ZT and delivered better economy than both those engines. There is a whole article about it on aronline under powertrain.

there's a 58 plate hatch knocking about up here, and it looks in better condition than that one!

see this thread - the protoype was using the 8v head, but the plan was for the 16v to be put in place.

looked tidy, common rail injection and vnt turbo, is a real pity as power figures would have been a few years (yet again) above the competition!
