Well ... I should already be on the train to Canterbury to collect my car, but, yesterday evening we got a call from my boy's school to tell us they were closed ! No heating or hot water, so they're both having another day off.

Got to wait now until Mrs C gets home from her morning job so I'll get it later this afternoon.

Tick-tock.

Good luck with the train journey!

There were delays and all kinds of problems on the Canterbury line the other day.. Do you know if you are going via Ashford or Chatam on the train?

Well ... Collected it today. Couldn't sit around twiddling my thumbs any more.

Initial thoughts .... Standard. Not as fast as my other one, but much quieter.

Absolutely as it came out of the showroom. Previous owners DOB was on the paperwork showing him as 52 years young.

Wheels are kerbed more than I remember when I saw it with my blinkers on, and the tyres on the front are a bit lacking so I'll be sorting that out soon. Might put my Kei's on so long as the guy from Brum who's coming at the weekend doesn't want them. We'll see.

Photos will come in a few days. It was clean when I collected it but 60 odd miles in the weather and you'd not think so.

All in all. I'm a happy man.

When I picked up my Mk2 yesterday, the dealer had one of your Alfas on the forecourt. Looked very nice.

That's actually the one I was going to look at the other day, but didn't as it started snowing and I couldn't be arsed to de-ice the car!:sheep:

What's the garage like? The pictures make me think it's a little 'Del Boy'?

:wave::wave::wave:

If you can show me where you can buy a mk2 ZS derv for £2,495 then I'd be amazed... That's early mk1 with 100,000+ miles money:deadhorse:

Anyway, Dan, I take it you like the new motor?

The garage was very much an "Arthur Daley". The guy I dealt with was fine though. He copied my driving licence then chucked the keys for the ZS at me and said, "take it for a run, you'll love it", and left me to it.

The cars he has in there are nice, not all 99k miles ex fleet stuff. My ZS is a one owner from new, 2005 "05" 20K example, which wants for nothing. To be fair to him, he had it up for good money anyway at 4K. I'd still have bought it at £4,500 due to the history and condition. I got it for £3,750 after I pointed out that it needed a service. It's far quieter than either of my ZS's so far as it's totally standard and so felt a little more clinical to drive. Didn't get a good drive really with the weather, but all in all, very happy. Took the vis tester I've got at the moment and they are both working fine and the plenum seems very quiet. It's a bit lumpy on tickover, but like I said, it needs a service.

The Alfa looked really good.

And ... Pete's twin, Yellow Mk2 Diesel went for £2,800.

Glad the 180 has worked out well, I'm thinking of taking a trip up to take the Alfa for a run.. Problem is if I do, I'll want to bring it home with me now!

I found another beastie I'm tempted in, the Alfa at the garage is a GT, but I quite like this one now:

http://i.ebayimg.com/14/!!rWOsVgB20~$(KGrHqUOKjMEsnr2+M8!BLO+2o,eWQ~~_12.J PG

A bit 'boy racer' maybe, but it is pushing 170bhp from a 1.9 derv! (Something you don't get with a ZS!!)

And ... Pete's twin, Yellow Mk2 Diesel went for £2,800.

Ya see, that's why I'd never sell a car on ebay!

I bought my Prelude on ebay for £850, sold it less than a year later for £2800 on Pistonheads!

Cars never get their full value on ebay, selling is a bad idea, buying on the other hand is great as you can get some stonkingly good deals!

That car would have easily sold for £3600+ if put on Autotrader, yeah it may have taken a few weeks to shift (instead of 7 days), but the difference in return is shocking!

In total agreement with you there Will about eBay!

Not sure about the alpha's looks, infact I think it looks like the contents of my toilet after a curry, but cannot doubt the fact it will be great fun! I think you should go for it ;)

Woah! That must be one strong curry!!

As for fun, I know it will be! The 1.9 JTD engine used in the newer Alfa's is simply amazing!

With a little bit of tweaking they can safely reach 200bhp with 306lb-ft torque and a 0-60 of 6.8... I guess the factory-fit lsd helps!

Yeah, but how much have you spent on getting it to that stage? The Alfa is 170 standard, spend that much again and you're into a whole new thing! :bounce:

Shh...dont ask awkward questions ;)
i admit it has been alot in monetary sense.. but i would say half has been labour... hell it has been on the dyno for a remap 4 times now, that is adding up as is everything else...

and i love the alpha brera, that one is not too bad but i am not 100% sure i like it.

I'm not too taken on the Brera, would seriously love the Q4 v6 version, but it's like £435 a year tax alone!

Well .... I was fairly open about it. I saw the Mk2 "55" plate x-power hatch which had alcantara. I've wanted alcantara since I ever got interested in the MG ZS. The X-power one got sold and I had the cash out to buy it. It wasn't anything to do with NOT wanting my old Mk1 ; just that I also wanted a Mk2. Couldn't have both.

Anyway - I was going to put the money back, kept a look-out on autotrader and found this Mk2. Couldn't believe my luck to be honest. It got traded in on the Sunday afternoon and I saw it on the Monday.

20K - One 52yr old owner bought through the MG owner's club with alcantara and large spoiler upgrade. It's come with a wallet full of history including the brochure and price lists for the time.

So ... after some time, here are some pics. I've not washed it at all since I got it and it's been driven in the slush and frozen for a few days so when given a good wash and polish, it'll get it's own thread.

Cheers fellas.

I knew trying to sell around Christmas and New Year was going to be a challenge, but it seems that the money is out there for the right cars.

The Red one was the right car for me. It had what I wanted so I bought it. The black Mk1 was right for the fella that bought it. It's all about timing I guess and I've had a good break with this buying and selling venture.
