The MGF suffered a failed water pump 2 days after collecting it, not the ideal start to 'F' ownership! What with my back playing up and on pain killers I was in a pickle! I was given this guy to contact, Russell Walsh of www.mgroversolutions.com (http://www.mgroversolutions.com) and he was excellent.

He got to my house about 2:15 today and by 3:10 it was running and finished by 3:30. K-series water pump and belt change for £150. Check his website for head gasket work as well.

So anyone needing K-series work doing including the KV6, then contact Russell. He did say he can do the KV6 belts for £350 and he will travel.

That looks interesting, the only thing that concerns me is that there is only 1 clue to his location and that is in the pricing menu, even the phone number isn't geographic.

His old site was better, from what I can remember he's based near Sevenoaks (Kent)

For Derv's there is a guy on the forums that will do it for a fair bit less. Turbozed on xpf or Cap'n Zs on .org is worth sending a pm - i think he said he has racked up 30 belt changes now!

I have not used him, but he also gets a good recommendation from the people he has travelled to to change the belts.

Russell is based in Kent but will travel. He has been as far as Scotland and tends to book jobs in on the way back down so he can make the trip worthwhile.

He has been mentioned in MG Enthusiast and does not advertise as he does not need to.

I told him to pop on here.

The F/TF'ers on .org do nothing but rave about him. Dont think many garages like doing the belts on the F/TF's!

Thats a very good price for the Kv6 belts, Is that without parts??

He does get his knockers, some say it's impossible to it in an hour, bullshit I say! I watched him do it! He made it look easy!

KV6 includes the belts, his says no need to change the water pump unless it has gone or if you wanted to change it, they rarely fail.

If he only charges £350 for doing belts, i will be booking him in to come and do mine, just saving up for mine to be done now, was going to ask lates for them to do the job.

Best check first as the cost is dependant upon your post code, so expect an increase to cover fuel expenses so far north. As I said previously he does try to group a few together and spreads the work over say three days away from home on the road for such trips.

There are a few of us up this neck of woods needing belts done round about the same time, wonder how many we could get together to make it as cost effective as possible:)

Yeah, I know... Was quoted £185 to change them, but don't fancy the 9 hour round trip to get it done :(

my belts ain't due till late in the year but at that price it would be worthwhile them being done early alongside Gary and Kev.

I may be a little blonde but wot is VVC and Non-VVC?????

I may be a little blonde but wot is VVC and Non-VVC?????

VVC - variable valve control - a way of giving extra power - fitted on some 1800cc kseries engines (think VIS or VTec)
non VVC - the same as above but not fitted.

VVC is the variable valve timing thingy, Honda had it first I think, you have to rev the nuts off but it gives a lot more BHP.

Non VVC is just ordinary valve timing, so no additional gears etc to worry about.

Thats the technical bit, well, as much as I know, thats not a lot.

Talkingcars beat me to it!!!

so mine, the 180, would have the VVC then?

Jay-ZS+
09-02-10, 07:16 PM
VVC was only fitted to the ZR 160 and BRM I believe its was a k-series fit. The Kv6 has the Vis which is the same kinnda idea, different operation but the closest comparison on the 180

This might help explain it http://www.mediafire.com/file/nyyvmzzimyh/vvc

Ritchy
09-02-10, 07:52 PM
it basically opens the valves for a longer period of time and increaes the lead and lag to increse scavenging, at higher revs its harder to get approximatley half a litre of air into a cylinder, think 100 revs a second, so 50 times it has to fill the cylinder with air, 50 times it has to get rid of it all again, in a second, and thats just 6000revs, so if it can open the valves a bit longer it can fill it a bit better.

... (think VIS or VTec) ...

vtec or VTEC, not VTec or V-Tech as I always see it spelt!

VVC is the variable valve timing thingy, Honda had it first I think, you have to rev the nuts off but it gives a lot more BHP.

Typically less torque with more bhp at a higher RPM...

Honda were producing 1.6 vtec engines in the late 80's with 150bhp, but the vtec system is simpler and different than the VVC system used in the Rover K :)

This is how VTEC works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcT_ZyY3F0k
Very simple and effective in design!

My 2p worth! :)

Ithink we should get all the scotts together and get the guy up to do a group fitting! Might be well worth the money!
