Bit of a ong shot, but is there any-one local(ish) to bristol that has a code reader that reads the pre 2004 L-series codes.

It is not fully OBDII so scangauge wont pick them up - i think it needs T4 or equivalent.

If not i guess i will have to go to the MGR garage at brislington....and get raped by their prices lol

thanks,

Pete

cool thanks, are you around tomorrow before about 12?

I am working US hours this week so have my mornings free so could meet up some-place - either at yours or somewhere in the middle (Tesco's or halfrauds or summit?).

If its pre 2001 it probably won't be EOBD compliant, so cheapo tools won't talk to it. T4 is the best bet.

I got one of those cheap OBD leads for my laptop and it reads the codes but can't take the light out

I dont have any lights, but i just need to read the codes, to let me know whether i have got a slow failure of the pump timing solenoid...

Only starts to put lights on when it is way out of spec apparently - well on the early models..

my car is 2003 so kinda OBDII and kinda not lol.

matt has got the code reading stuff so i may end up getting him to take a look at it, just trying to reduce options option to me so i can find out quite where i stand with the car and the project.

i was just saying pete as its a good tool to have, as like you say the scangauge can only do so much with the tractor engine,

this is what i have,

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EOBD2-OBD2-diagnostic-interface-usb-can-bus-Scanner-L2_W0QQitemZ270554299951QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Diag nostic_Tools_Equipment?hash=item3efe4afe2f

get the software off the "net" and plug into your laptop, this reads the codes and with some software it tells you straight away what the fault is by reading the code

Ah interesting Steve - thanks will take a look at it later on.

As a bonus i just found a motorfactor 2 mins walk from my flat that i had always assumed was part of a garage... so pressure cap should be with me later on today :)

I need to get my codes read on my 2001 Diesel anyone know what to use on mine as a normal OBDII does not work on it.

Well Jay's was like my scanguage unable to detect the codes... so i guess either get it hooked up to T4 or get summit for a lappy like Steve posted.

Gentle pootle up to Jay's tho did not result in any obvious coolant loss tho....

if it is the cap it was a nice quick cheap fix - £12.30 from the motorfactor!

The car does for sure.. but knowing the relationship i have with 'her' it will probably not be the easy fix....

I am keeping everything crossed myself tho!
