im thinking of buying an old zs as they are going so stupidly cheap, ok they are a bit behind modern hot hatches but for the smiles per mile and the money you cost you cant go wrong really.
Anyway ill prob need a belt service doing so whos best on price and who do you recomend bearing in mind im central so dont want to travel to scotland, lol.?
What else is normally changed.....is it just water pump and thermostat?

Not being funny but if I was to look for somefbody to do a job like this on a 180 it's worth spending the money on somebody who knows what there doing.... Not sure what g charges but compared to a random dealer he is worth the extra ... What he dosnt know about kv6 etc fair play for being keen on price George

I would only trust someone in the know, too many people offering belt changes for silly money. Beware they probably don't even have the tools.

At least the prices are becoming affordable now, otherwise no-one would bother getting them done and we'll all be driving time bombs.

and the other thing you have to watch when getting a backstreet garage to do it is to make sure they change all 3 belts, as i have known places to only change the 2 little ones !!

RudeDogg1

Rudedogg1,

I think most people on this topic were referring to the 2.5 KV6 belt change, which is a very big job the 1800 is a 2hour job in comparison, which if you look at your quote of £70labour is about right. Whoever was charging you £300.00 labour for doing the belts, may have got confused with the 2500 KV6 belts, which in turn have 3 cam belts whereas the 1800k non vvc only has one cam belt.

no the 300 quote was from an ex dealer who are dear as fooook lol I just used to take it there cuz it was the closes specialist ill shut up now lol

no need to shut up matey, we dont know the facts until they are explained, thats why people ask the questions.

I am merely observing your posts and pointing out that the original thread starter was asking in specific to a kv6 not an 1800, and it was only because i know the member that i was able to know which belt change he was meaning.

You were quite right to express your opinion and how much you were getting yours done for, and if you are happy with the cost and the person who is doing the job, then thats what matters for you.
