In order to keep my car count up I have purchased a new toy. I've only taken one photo of it so far, so here it is...

This is now my second MG Montego turbo - the first one is sitting in the showroom awaiting new wheel bearings and an MOT.

The new car is black and came with 1 moths tax & MOT. It is in need of some TLC, but seems to be mechanically sound.

And there was me expecting something exotic!

Still nice to see them still going all the same.

is this the one that gothbob was advertising on MMM?

Sorry to disappoint...

Apparently, out of about 7,276 built there are only around 100 of these left on the road. They built 505 Maestro Turbos and there are around 250 left on the road.

I believe so. Its her Maestro diesel that is behind the Montego in the above photo.

I was tempted by it, and did ask for a price, but seems you got there before me LOL

I had one of these and loved it to bits , only issue was horrendous brake fade although I admit to driving like I stole it

Compared with the 400 turbo the brakes seem to be made of cheese! I've got some Ferodo pads that I may fit at some point :D

Quite a bit of tidying up is required on the car. I'm just about to change one of the wheels, as the tyre went down overnight. I'll be putting in a new speedo in as its a 130mph one in at the moment and the needle wavers all over the place. Need to replace the driver's mirror as well, as it is help on by blue tack.

Great cars..

Ive owned over 50 montego turbos in my time !

Also owned a few maestro turbos and one race maestro turbo which i got fastest fwd at ultimate fast car in 1995.

My favourite colour was the white one.

Has it still got the fluted rear lights or the later smoothed ones?

Very nice. Quality motor! then I would say that as I still have one :)
Very underated and fast cars!! The engines are sooooo understressed in std form!! change the airfilter and exhaust and wind the boost up and they will see off most fast cars even today! Theres a silver evo6 local to be that doesnt like to play anymore...lol
I recon there are less than 100 around. especially in that condition! defenetly less montys about now than maestros.

I have recently being sorting loads of bits out on mine. Including new carb, shocks and hybrid turbo with a bit more boost:evil:

Defenetly get pumping the waxoil into every nook and cranny though....they are a nightmare for rust!!

That should have the slotted rear lights being a D reg G

Ah! I must admit this is pretty exotic! :)

I believe there were only four or five of these around in Luxembourg when they were new.

I still have the Diamond White one my father bought new back in 1986, although it's looking rather sorry now. Still, I have gathered almost all the parts needed to restore it. The only thing I'm looking for now is some spare time to actually do it...

Fitted last night! not much left on the original pads! no wonder it wouldn't brake very well!

How are the Ferodo ones bedding? remember you will need new discs too.

Yes, the Ferodo pads were fitted last night (finished around 9:80pm). They certainly seem to stop the car quicker than the old pads. The inner pads were down to around 2mm and the outer ones around 4mm.

Evidence of it having been hit previously by a taxi.

Turbo boost gauge. I think I may have to make a neater job of this!
