My only concern is though that the light is staying on very dimly...

this is comon with led lights, i dont beleave its a problem as its using so little power it wont make any differance

Is it something to do with them taking time to discharge?
nah the circuit has a very low vltage going through when its on the door open setting, you can get round thois by wiring a resistor into it, but i wouldnt worry
Ive been meaning to get a blue one for ages,Looks nice.
I had a blue neon in the ZS-X, and that stayed on dimly as well. Its just the way that they work.

I have considered a resistor placed in series to reduce current but it's too much effort!
