Bloody bargin regardless!
Absolute steal! Has it had a front end bump mate?
yeah mate, notice the 25 lights lol, needs a bonnet cable, sort out the passenger side central locking, ball joint and head gasket possible a head and il sort out all the wee niggles
its taxed and moted too
it was running...just when i picked it up then it made the unmistakable broken valve noise so dunno what itll need
Always a give away, although some zrs were sent our with 25 hlights. Still a total bargain and a nice wee project

Thats such a nightmare to hear, you just know the heads goosed lol
sure theres one at work, n stuarty said i can raid his garden too cuz we swapped his 25's engine for a 1.8, not too bothered tbh, new engine will be about 100 out meekans anywhoo worst case scenario
not sure whats happening to it yet, either gonna keep it, sell it to ma burds mu for prety much what it costs, or i could easy get a grand for it

lucky man! wish I had that luck!
Looks no bad ritchy do you not fancy stripping it for track days and punt the extra bits.
top notch buy there Ritchy. once sorted it'll be a wee belter:D
Thats a steal, id keep it a while and get some use out of it, cheap tax ins if you keep it a 1.4 ;)
ma dads boats nor
well stripped down, no snapped valve but the piston was full of water so think thats how it stopped cranking over, can see where the gaskets failed at number one,
so plan at present is...
get the head tested and skimmed tomorrow, buy a uprated gasket set and ladder, new radiator, new timing belt kit, alt and pas belts think il get another inlet manifold as this ones painted..., bonnet latch cable, strip front bumper off check front end repair is up to scratch, doesnt look like its had a front panel though and get a new driver seat, treat some bits of paint and should be good:D
well heres what it looks like after 3 hours work

http://i969.photobucket.com/albums/ae176/ritchyp/07072010646.jpg
then i took the front of to see what the accident damage was, it looks like its had a light front end bump, breaking the crash bar, theyve just left it off but im going to get one at the weekend, the slam panel is the original and is all still intact, but im going to give it a coat of matt black to help protect it all:) see if i can get some zr headlights too

just won a full red leather brm interior for it:) should look good

Nice project you got there Ritchy, thats a bloody bargain even if the engine is a little sick! ;)
This takes me back to when i had my ZR160, wish i had space for another one at home but new alloys are on the cards for my mk2 so can`t be too greedy! :D
did a wee bit more work this evening, took all the valves out and lapped all the inlet valves in, but the wee suction cup on the lapping stick av got at home isnt sticking to the exhaust valves so gonna need me work one

Looks like another great rebuild, all to a high standard. Hope it all goes well.
Looked at mini prices, as the grandson will be able to drive in a year or two. Idea was to get one that needed a bit of work. Prices are eye watering, ?750 for one thats OK for restoration!! Most likely rusted out rear subframe. MOT'd ones going for ?1500, ?2000, said a 1.4 ZR would be cheaper, or a ZS come to that.
Suppose its the insurance that pushes the mini prices up, scrapped one of the daughters mini, too much rust in the boot. Last seen being lifted up in the sky by a crane in the scrappies that had hold of the boot and was shaking it like a dog with a bone.
Poor mini, not a pretty sight.
:-D:-D:-D:-D:-D
thats the thing with minis unless you pay the money theyre usually rotton, mind you not as bad down dorset compared to up here but still probably better to spend the extra with a good bodywork, knackered engine wouldnt be too bad on one from what i gather theyre pretty easy to swap

Did a couple on my own, undo the subframe, brakes, worse bit exhaust manifold joint and lift the body up, push the subframe out.
Always had to have help getting the driveshafts out, worried I'd damage the casing by giving them a clout.
:wave::wave::wave:
did a bit of work with the surface prep tool i bought this eveningm shame nobody will ever see it all once its all built up

full brm interiors here now:D including the red carpet, red leather seats, the doorcards with the red leather trim, the leather steering wheel yes red, red gear gaitor and red leather centre console, red leather handbrake with aluminium button and trims and the alloy gear knob, not bad for ?113 eh, got ?20 back already from the passenger seat,
i wasnt sure about the red in the car but it looks lovely, guess because its more of a wine colour, tanya loves it so think plans have changed and shes getting the car now
nice, but mair feckin pics noo baw bag:D
theyre not actually fitted just sat them in to get them out the rain, plus steam cleaning the carpet tomorrow as well so get some proper pics once fully fitted

had another hour or so to do a bit more today...yes i know its taking ageeeees, thought id show you how good my wee surface prep tool is, it uses 3m nylon roloc brushes so doesnt damage the metal, so at the stage of everything getting bolted back together now if this rain goes away that is
also cleaned the expansion tank bottle took ages and lots of boiling water new waterpumps on too

Hmmm, not really keen on the Yellow/Red theme. Reminds me of a trifle. Looks like your doing a good job though.
id have liked to do the engine another colour but its what i had ahah, i like the red so does tanya so thats the main thing:), fixed the fan was one of the fuses

Looking good Richy. It's coming on well. Decided what your going to do with it yet?
thanks guys:D yeah Jay, Tanya's getting it so itll still be around:)
well today drove across to top gear, took off the exhaust, dropped the tank and cut the old brak pipes off, made up the new pipes and was just about to flare them when i realised the new ends where in the zs, at home, 14 miles away, so go the train home then headed down to dundee to pick up a set of koni adjustable shocks and springs, also yesterday picked up the wheels fresh from powdercoating, and tuesday i fitted 2 brand new headlights, il do a full list of everything ive done tomorrow after im finnished, still body work to do but its about 90% there now i recon
few sneaky photos

looking good Ritchy min, love the wheels!!
see you have couple o spots of rust in the usual zr spots, you getting them touched in?:)
shall be getting new wings at a later date:) got sideskirts that need fitted too! and painted, rusting round the boot button as well and got a key down it as well, shall all be done though:D

good stuff bud, when ye fit the sideskirts where they meet the bottom of the wings try and get something there to stop chafage as when skirts are fitted that is another popular point. IMO the zr's aint bad for rust tbh just bits where there is constant rubbing that it starts....or round the boot lock:)
who do you use for your bodyworks? :)
*edit* You could be as well getting they wings redone bud as that leading edge is very common for rusting and most others will be they same, if rubbed back and treated well with a quality paint job they should be fine:)
think il just use spot on across the road from me da's work because i know him:) cheers for the tips mate:D seem a lot worse off compared to the zs, but new wings is about ?20 or summit lol, braided hoses to go on too!

nae bother mate:) watch the fit of pattern parts as the bonnet i got for my ZR wasn't the greatest tbh, most wouldn't notice I suppose but I knew it was there lol:D All mod cons for Tanyas motor eh lol, getting mair stuff than your zs hehe:D
Compared to the zs they aint really a great deal worse, a lot of it is down to previous owners, i used to clean that parts of the wings whenever i had the bumper aff so never had rust there at all, but had tiny bit where sideskirts met as i said and on leading edge of door where the rubber johnny for door loom chafes.
Oh an like the zs check the roof guttering and round windscreen seal:)
think the last two owners havent been that caring tbh, ma mate got two of the wings from A panels and they look top notch i have to say! got a good quote from the arnold clark body shop to do the painting ect, but seen some of the work that came out there so not sure!

lol, aye best get it done somewhere yer happy with the work they turn oot mate, keep it up bud, nice rescue you have done:)
think im gonna grudge giving her it tbh loll, dont like it better than the zs but it is slowly turning into a lovely wee car
well been a busy few weeks, ive
rebuilt the engine,
fitted the new interior,
had the full front end off
fitted new crash bar
fitted a new bonnet release cable
new aerial base
fitted koni springs and shocks
two track rod ends
2 new headlights
full set of brake pipes,
new tank straps
had the wheels powdercoated
wired up central locking for the passenger door and boot
new radiator
new set of speakers
fitted fog lights and painted the bezels black
black indicators and side repeators
unwired the old amp and bass setup
this is how it sits now, still ideally needs two new wings, few spots of rust toched in and the sideskirts fitted and shes good to go:D

Top work Ritchy, Tanyas a lucky Lass.
well passed its MOt now, no advisorys so just a wee bit more painting glueing and its done:D oh n of course LED's you know me:P. still been driving it because tanyas not getting it till its completely done, love it to bits, but not as much as the zs, had to tell the zs i was keeping it though so it doesnt decide to have hgf just to spite me
well after 2 years of tanya driving this she has just bought a brand new ford fiesta, so im having it back for a wee project.
things to do:
fit a rebuilt 1.4 engine(have the engine just need to rebuild)
rebuild the spare gearbox for it
bare shell strip down
prep and put new wings, bonnet and bumper on
respray in white with a blue glaze in the laquer
then who knows what next, dont know if i really want to keep it but will enjoy having another wee project
