I spent some time on moneysupermarket.com and got some great quotes for the MGF and Discovery, the ZS i'm getting done through Greenlight ?337 fully comp with like for like mods covered.

?3k is a lot even with staff discount, suppose I'm lucky as I have never paid over the odds for car insurance even when under 25 running a hot hatch back then.

i mean for a first car i am expecting about 100 a month and have been looking at other cars and they are all about that mark so i think i will be having a long hard look for insurace before the car itself.......:p

My first car cost me ?450 per year, back in 1986!!! Mind you it was a MK2 Escort RS1800.
My zed costs me ?475 with fully comp and protected no claims. The one advantage of being old lol........(well only 43)

arnold clark quoted me 1800,
then when i got the car you get a weeks free insurance so they can tax it from ford insure, and had to phone up about it, and ive got a traders policy but when they asked if i wanted a quote for a year i thought why not...
insurance guy: okay so right youve just passed your test today, your just 18, ect ect....
okay mr pooley we can quote you for 1700 a year
me: oh thats not that bad
insurance guy: oh wait a decimal place out...17,000

?475 is still high, I was quoted ?337 for a modified ZS with 5 years ncb (Discovery has the 13 years on it) I'm 45 btw. Talking of cars back in the day, my HSX Chevette was only ?298 fully comp in 1989 and that was running twin 48's!

I am currently 17 and own a 2.0litre (113) Turbo Diesel 45 Saloon, with Quinns it costed me around ?1500 (fully comp) which i thought is relatively good with the engine size I have. :)

Before I had a Rover 414i which cost me ?1250 (fully comp) so all in all ive not done too bad.

I bet the HSX Chevette was alot of fun then Mick!

It goes too show how much insurance has risen over the years, insurance is expensive and I am 41. I pay 331.00 pounds fully comp with 7 years ncb and thats with Chris Knott with all mods declared. I don't think it's going to come down though, it will just get more expensive!

Yep, the HSX was fantastic! Probably a better handling car than the ZS, but when on full song was superb. However it dipped into single figure mpg when pushed! Was running a few works DTV parts so can't complain.

I looked at Chris Knott but read on the website they don't entertain stripped cars.

That is mental, I pay around ?240 on a MK2 1.8 with the 180 kit (that they class as a modification as it was not standard on the 120), a K and N pannel filter and Janspeed backbox. That is the bonus of being 32 I guess. Nice car though by the way, wish I had something like that when I was 17 instead of using my mum's 1.1 automatic Fiesta with CVT!

475 could be about right due to those thieving ****** insurance companies as thats about what i have bee quoted fully comp at 40 with five yrs no claims on that policy ( they said they both hated the zed and my postcode lol)

20 on a 1.8 ZS im paying ?1500 its alot of money but I was paying ?1800 on a mk1 1.4 ZR and the ZS is a big upgrade in my eyes.

I hope it will drop when I hit 21 with 2 years NCB at the end of the year.
