Looks good as its is, save your money for the instructors, plenty of driving practice. Get to know the routes that they take you out on, drive them till you know them all.
Hill starts, backing round corners, parking between cars, plus whatever else they throw at you now. We live on a hill and I took one of the daughters out and got her to back round a corner, that was also on a hill. On her test the examiner got her to do the same thing, so she was pleased we covered it.
Remember all mods should be reported to the insurers, or they could refuse to payout. They will put your premium up I expect.
Have fun and stay safe.

Perfect first wee car to learn in Corey.
Dont waste cash on trying to turn it into a GTI lookalike, save the money for your ZS.
coreygraham180
24-09-10, 07:34 PM
Just alloys and a gti body kit....lol
Not much just what ever at any scrap yards
Thats ace mate, you made a mature, informed chioce and you should be proud of yourself.
Furthermore, think how much cash you will save for future lessons and a ZS once you gain that all important experience.
If you need any guidance while out and about, I am happy to supervise you on occassion.
Look up the 'Roadcraft - The System of Car Control' used by the police. Some useful stuff there.
And don't GTI it. Enjoy it for what it is!

Change of mind just central locking will do
Indeed, dont change it at all, the 1.4 is a cracking motor, my bro has on, it was 21years old yesterday! http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/oO0_Huffy_0Oo/Picture89.jpg Mine was the red 1.0
If your forced to do anything, lower the front springs and drop the tortion bar on the back, will be a cheap subtle mod and look great on an otherwise standard car :)
You want a Sony CD player to go with that mate?
coreygraham180
24-09-10, 10:08 PM
Well ive got a cd player already and two more in the shed but thanks anyway mate
And maby be tempted to take a look at the inverkeithing scrappies see what they got but a central locking system for ?25 of ebay and see what I can grab cause it is more historic than a corsa or 106 defiantly
haven't had a go in it my self yet but would imagine would be good in the snow
Skinny tyres and a rallying history....lol
i like the 205, would definatly consider one!

Perfect car to start in, nice one. Plenty of feedback driving them (I had a 1.6 briefly once in the same colour) and was the fastest thing thru London backroads - only when there were speed bumps of course, I could go flat out with the floaty suspension lol. Even out run an elise this way! Don't think it counts mind...
Don't make it a Gti look a like tho, as you may end up with similar insurance too - they really, really don't like that kind of thing.

Yeeh well fitted the new radio to discover that it needs a conversion kit....doh...lol

Well was looking up a spec sheet and was really surprised to find four things
1. Fuel tank. 11 gallons
2. Bhp. 75 bhp
3. 0-60 time 10.6 seconds
4. Top speed 109 mph.
When I saw that big grin on my face
Nice find mate, I passed my test in a 1.9d. I agree with the lowering post. A nice set of 1.9 gti alloys and hit it with the big lowering stick, it will look amazing!

As said been looked after so don't think it will be that far off done less miles than my dads car!!!
If you look for a set of 13' alloys from a Rolland Garros, and stick it on some really good rubber, Goodyear F1s, then you'll actually have mor fun, my bro's 1.4 wears out its drive shaft quite quick with 1.9 alloys, infact he might have a set of Gti 14's in the garage' i'll ask him what he wants for them.
Change Your indicator lenses, about ?50 a pair, makes a huge difference to the look, but not a chav mod.
this takes me back ...... I've had loads of 205 over the years..... crashed a fair few too! lol

Yeeh might look into the light but if u could ask him that would be great
And I think the 205 is the ultimate hot hatch of 80s and 90s
I think it'd be quite good to GTI it up. I wouldn't spend a lot though, but a few bits here and there would make a difference. It'll probably increase your insurance though.

Inverkiething scrappies. Probably the best place to go for bits and bobs they must have a couple there and also check for zed bits...lol

Dont be daft.... its good.... but VW made the best of the 70's80's and 90's Mk1 Golf Gti & Mk2 16v were much better that any pug.... although the 1.9 pug was better than the 8v golf, it doesn't come any where neer the 16v Mk2. I've owned them all.... lol

I really like that, i considered a 205 myself (the 1.9 GTi) but it was hard to find one that hadn't been wrapped around a tree at some point!! You gotta love 80's hot hatches. I had a nice white mk2 XR2 untill a couple of years ago. Loved that car so much and these 80's hot hatches are so cool to roll about in, even today. They're such head turners.
I'm only 23 myself but i agree with everyone else here. I know its your first car and all you want to do it start modifying it, and its hard not to, but i would save your money. The only reason we are saying it is because we wish we had too when we were your age. And i bet you will too if you spend out money 'GTi'ing' it. I'd keep it as standard as possible, and as clean as possible. When your ready to buy your ZS, that will sell for quite a lot more money that you paid for it if you advertise in the right places, being so clean.

No way, build quality maybe, but hardly the last word in excitement. Golfs are always the sensible choice, and surely hot hatches aren't about being sensible? 205s are much more nimble, chuckable, dangerous, much better! Renault 5 GT turbos even better. Looked so different, proper old, cheap looking tat with great power and turbo lag. Wicked fun. Just enough time when you put your foot time for people to go, doesn't seem quick, then, woosh. Let alone if you tuned them, bye bye gti! :smile2:

We have a scrappies down here, when money was tight I got a couple of tyres off him. Used to be for each tyre, ?20 + ?5 for fitting new valve and balance.
Had them on my Volvo 440 turbo on the front and they were still good 2 years later when I got rid of the car.
You do have to check the tyres carefully, if poss. see them on the old rims, any that have rim damage discard. Also only get tyres with a lot of tread, if they are 1/2 worn they will wear very quickly, he tried to get me to buy some that were worn on the edge. Told him to go away, the ones I wanted to replace were in better condition.
Go with someone that knows a bit about tyres and dont be afraid of walking away if you dont like them.
I know I'll get a few "never buy from scrappies", but I always think its a better bet, than running on worn out tyres. I always used good quality named brands, dont go for remolds or the cheap Polish imports.
I'd look for the same tread pattern one as the others, or failing that 2 good ones that you can fit on the same axle, dont go mixing tread patterns and makes if you can avoid it. (thinks, my back tyres are odd but both lots of tread )
Worth pricing them up and then checking with new tyre suppliers to see if they have any offers on, maybe midrange tyres dont work out a great deal more expensive, but end of the day its all down to money.

If you can find someone to fit them cheap ( I pay ?5 a wheel) go to camskill.co.uk or mytyres.co.uk get all my tyres from there and if they have offers on are cheap aswell.

Well had a go at tryingbto fit my wheels today and it was looking the part with just enough clearance at the front then went to go on a test drive
To find that. The back wheels rub off the bumper
So they now don't fit and are going to be on bay in the next couple of days
That's a rubbish lesson to learn!
I almost bought zt wheels with tyres for ?100, even bartered from ?150 only to remember they don't fit.
Saved lol
peterzs
11-10-10, 02:28 PM
Dont worry, I've gone one better, got two sets of alloys that dont fit the Punto. Bought off ebay!!!
Have to get them back on.
:clap::clap::clap:
Would they fit a Nissan micra lol
peterzs
11-10-10, 03:44 PM
Think you would be OK buying Punto wheels, ours is a 55 reg, Fiat changed the center bore for newer Puntos, made them smaller.
Can never assume anything from one model will fit another!!!!
One set is still boxed, bought from a Fiat dealer, did ask the question but he gave back the sizes, didnt mean much to me. I,d bought the second set, with tyres but didnt try and fit them till much later.
Too lazy I suppose, but missed the reject date. Doh!!!!
