well as some of you might know i recently bought andys car from on here, well today i parked at a tesco while i nipped in for some shopping and when i came out the car was lying in the middle of the car park about 6ft from where i parked it and there was a little old 70 year old in a skoda looking all shaken up, i approached the car and noticed that the bumper was hanging off at passengers side, the rear passenger door was dented, the rear quarter panel was dented and the alloy had a big chip out of it as did the tyre, old lady was badly shaken up by it all, she had parked behind me but went to reverse out and put it into first gear and smashed my car,

so phoned the insurance company who got it collected and are getting it looked at and an enstimate of the costs for repair if its not a total loss,
getting a courtesy car tomorrow until its fixed or they settle with me,

tottaly gutted,

i noticed lol, looking at the car it should be fixable if the parts are there, needs a new bumper and a new passengers door and a new rear quarter panel thingy and also new alloys, hopefully the people that are looking at it will see sense and repair instead of just writing the thing off

I know how hard tahiti is to find lol! The good thing is there are a lot of rover 400s in tahiti. So doors should be ok. Theres someone selling an extreme spoiler on ebay, its on a r400 by the looks of it, maybe hes splitting the car?

they are considering between a cat c and a cat b, i have made it known that i would like to buy the car back if possible, if i get it back i would defo be looking at a possible repair job, needing the bumper (AGAIN) also need the rear quarter panel part but noticed it goes all the way over the front door area, also need a rear passenger door but thats not urgent, i am off to ibiza for a week tomorrow but i will let you all know what happens when i get back, if you see any of these parts can you post in here for me? please thanks

when i was looking at the damage i saw nothing to bad, just the bumper hanging offand the rear quarter panel section badly dented and pushed in towards the boot, the rear passenger door had a small dent in it as well from where she has tried to move from my car but thats not really needing sorted unless the door dont open because of it, at the moment i dont have pictures as my phone had no charge when my insurance people got it towed away, also away for the week but when i get back i will be sorting it all out and hopefully sourcing parts and some forum members help, working in clydebank when i get back so anyone near there could help if they had time, thanks will keep you in the loop when i return

no one has had a look yet, i thought that the quarter panel would be replaceable but looks like its not the case, so unless it can be battered out from the boot and then pulled a little and straightened then it might be only good for parts which is a bloody shame, but if i can bring it back frm the dead again i willyeah mate,a posted to quick,ye must have just been uploading them

Sorry to read this.

It's difficult to tell from the pictures but I suspect the whole back of the car is twisted, the boot floor looks distorted, the N/S inner wheel arch looks damaged as well.

Does the car still drive, does it go in a straight line?
Does the boot shut?
Does the drivers side passanger door function correctly?
Is there any distortion to the roof?

The quote for repair would suggest the car needs jigging.

Have you actually bought it back from the insurance yet?

Looks pretty bad! The back end must have the strength of melted toffee now :( Seeing as its had at least 3 rear enders. I see the remnants of the tow bar are still there. Looks like a whole load of work to get it back on the road. Maybe its time to break it...........

first gear from stationary she told me, she was trying to reverse but never had the strenght to lift the gear stick into reverse only into first and wacked it, lol so not to hard? lol anyone in or near paisley thinks they could help/giveme an opinion of wether to break or repair i would be happy to hear/see. cheers

Dan1971
14-10-10, 10:26 PM
Well I'm nowhere near Paisley, but I'll tell you this much. The car appears cursed - and very weak at the rear after all those shunts. If all you can do is pull it straight again, the next time it gets hit from behind, I'd wager that it'll crumple all the way into the passenger area - and I wouldn't want anyone I cared about to be in there !

Sad ..... But ..... Got to be break it mate.

Smokey

lol, well sadly the car looks like its going to be either sold as is for parts or stripped down by myself and sold as parts, the bash is in a place where even straigtening it out would still make it look silly, the quarter panel cant be replaced as its part of the whole car, goes right over the doors to the windscreen and is welded to the bit the boot shuts onto, so today is a sad day indeed for the mg zs 180 that was owned by myself and andy and craig? and whoever else before, but hopefully the parts shall be put to good use and help restore others cars.

You can get a rear quarter panel to fit, just offer up the replacement panel, mark it, then drill out all the spot welds, cut the panel off up to where the mark is, then clamp the clamp in the panel and weld all the spot welds back, then seam seal any joins, prep, paint refit all bits etc.

The quarter panel is actually replaceable, they are about ?300 to buy, wether it would be worthwhile depends on the value of the car versus the cost of repairs, additionally the only panel available is at a former MGR dealer in Holland.

Ah, Kev has posted the pic.

How the hell did I miss this thread! Reckon this particular ZS has run out of lives, probably best to break it as the integrity of the safety cell has been compromised too many times now. Shame but it is indeed cursed!

ibrox_hunk
24-10-10, 12:53 PM
to be honest i would rather keep it if it is indeed possible to fix, i know the back has had a few shunts but still its a nice car and if it can be fixed iwill get it fixed with the money that the insurance company are paying me,so where would i get someone to undertake the job? thanks

Any bodyshop should do the job, as long as you source the parts for them to do it

may be more ecomonically viable to buy another car and swap all you favorite bits onto it though
