Random question.. why the battery in the boot?

Well, 2 reasons really, I'd collected all the bits to do the conversion on my old 420, but when the running gear was transferred to the ZS I was left with all the bits, so decided to use them.

Secondly, I had a scare last winter with the filter hoovering some water in a kingsize puddle, so I modified the filter so it is hopefully out of the firing line of any water, if not, the space vacated by the battery can be used for a cold air box if I decide to relocate the filter.

Very nice, that conversion looks factory!

How you finding the wheels with the 5mm spacers, do you get any rubbing? Did you have to fit longer studs as well?

Thanks people, some nice comments.

Lawrence, the puddle was about 75mm deep, and extended about 5 metres along the nearside edge of the road.

Might be Ross, pm me a price, you can never have too many bits of spare mk2 bodykit, lol.

Jay, yeah I used longer studs, I wasn't going to bother but when you add up all the different thickness's the standard ones just don't cut it, it rubbed on MB lowering springs, so I went back to standard 180 springs, it's fine now.

Yes Kev :D

Same as on my car ;) - Although I'm currently running without extended studs... as the MK2 180 wheels will be up for sale next week (got some superleggaras arriving!!)

I think the chrome around the instruments and dials look really good mate. Nice job.

How have you dealt with the insurance side of things with the engine conversion ?

Thanks
It is insured with Flux as a 2 litre turbo, surprisingly there was no change in premium, which was a bonus, I expected it to go up a bit.

apologies for dragging this up from the past, what manifold is that?

I'm looking for a tubular version that I can heat wrap and don't really want to have to get one custom made

petet16

It is a 200sx one modified with a T16 flange, I think Grant @gbe did a tubular manifold for the T16, but I don't know if it's still available.

looks a sweet install, what turbo is it running, what power and torque ?
did AAautosport build it, is there a build thread somewhere?

awsome bit of kit, lookes standard from the outside but hiding a beast under the bonnet!!thats one tidy looking engine bay, better than some oe cars. still not sure bout the mk2 styling but it is growing on me.

It was built by AA, it's running a T28, when I built the engine about 8 years ago it made 235 brake, but its blowing a bit of oil smoke now so I think a rebuild beckons, I never did a build thread for it:sorry:

cool, thats nice power for a zs especially with the turbo torque.....any plans to go any further with it ?

That is one cracking MK2 turbo!!
Very nice indeed.
Engine rebuild?? how many miles has it done in 8 years? This just sounds like a exscuse for more mods... ;)

Well, it did about 40k in my 420, it was then transplanted in to the zs in 2009, so it probably has about 60k total.

I've been collecting bits for a rebuild for a while now, brand new crank and shells, oil pump, it would be wasteful not to use them:rofl:

You still on std pistons?

I will be doing a o-series turbo rebuild build soon. Was running about 280bhp on twin carbs before it blew the headgasket out the side of the engine (literally). Its been sat im my garage for ages now.:(

Was going to say I have a block thats been honned and had wire ringing done but im sure the o-series block is a little different to the T16....?
I have a few sets of o-series mahle pistons as well if you were interested.

petet16
28-04-12, 09:36 PM
Yes, standard pistons, they're fine as long as you keep inlet temps under control, and don't stray over 12psi for too long.

I think to use O series pistons I'd need M series rods, and I'm leaning towards forged rods and pistons with dta management.
