I noticed today a faint ticking noise coming from the engine area whilst driving, it was a constant and rhythmic noise, engine was warm after driving 10 miles... no other symptoms apart from this..

I will see if I can isolate the sound a little later one

Any suggestions on what this may be?

did it continue once warm?

Could be purge valve, noisy tappet of possibly a rattly plenum - sounds more like a box of spanners rattling
My money is on purge valve :)

It only happened whent he engine was warm, or maye I only noticed it then?

It was a constant ticking noise, around every 2 seconds or so

Ive seen a few posts about the Purge Valve... is this easy to find on the engine?

Great Diagram, appreciated!

Is there just a part to disconnect from there?

Just a lecky plug to disconnect, if your tapping noise goes away you've joined the noisy purge valve club:laugh:

yes mate just unplug the wire connector then the little tick sould go away
dont run it for to long tho with the connector unpluged as the ecu MAY pick up a fault and stick the engine light on found a vid for ya http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1ehE04oMsI
if you have a big ticking sounds like this then you need to spend some money sorry

Thanks for that, will have a check later on after work...

If the purge valve is the culprit, is it something that needs to be replaced and is it easy/cheap to get hold of one?

I heard the ticking noise again today, and I watched both videos and neither of them sound like my ticking... mine appears to come from either side of the engine cover and is around 1 every second and a very light tick

The tick on the right seemed to be the purge valve... there is one on the left coming from this area, maybe the belt

The ticking that I have heard before I only heard when driving

yer could be the belt have a look at the top pulley on the vid it looks like the outer edge is rubbing but could just be the angle im looking at it from ???

the ticking you hear when on the move its not like with every rotation of the wheel is it??

if so try knocking the brake dust plate back
