Hey guys,

Ive help change the alternator belt on my mates rover 214 since his snapped, its now squealing like a bitch!!

Ive read that it could be to tight so have slackened it off but its still doing it?

Any ideas people?

Cheers

make sure there is no fluid on it and it is completely de greased. It could be the alternator thats become stiff which would explain the original breaking and the new one slipping, hence the squeal.

is that better??

it might be too slack rather than too tight, how bad is the squell as you may get a little bit of noise espiecially if its an older car
as a rule of thumb the belt should be able to be twisted a quarter turn at its longest part

All sorted now, we just tightened it back up let it run for 30 secs and its fine now! Job done :)
