Well I thought I'd get a thread going on the car now I'm back online at home!

When I picked it up:

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/1810/img0937e.jpg (http://img822.imageshack.us/i/img0937e.jpg/)

http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/7774/img0934wu.jpg (http://img853.imageshack.us/i/img0934wu.jpg/)

http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/4073/img0935rq.jpg (http://img11.imageshack.us/i/img0935rq.jpg/)

No miles:

http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/8859/img0939u.jpg (http://img683.imageshack.us/i/img0939u.jpg/)

Having cleaned it:

http://img813.imageshack.us/img813/5310/5543655261f5eff07fd2b.jpg (http://img813.imageshack.us/i/5543655261f5eff07fd2b.jpg/)

ZS grille freshly painted and reassembled:

http://img23.imageshack.us/img23/3906/img0985h.jpg (http://img23.imageshack.us/i/img0985h.jpg/)

The grille was a nightmare since the paint previously used (silver) must've been cellulose, it didn't like the acrylic! After a good rub back I found Trophy blue beneath that which I gave a couple coats of high build primer too, then normal primer, paint and lacquer. Be interesting to see how well it matches the colour. I've not attached the badge to the grille yet in case I'm not happy with the match...

What other plans have you got?

Ah great, thanks mate!

I've got a set of 17" straights to go on, and a set of hatch seats to collect, as well as ZS dash trim and an MG wheel and airbag. I've got all the MG badging too to go on...

The most important thing is to get the correct ZS handling set-up, in terms of springs, anti-rollbar etc etc... It'll all come in time!

Will you not need to change the bushes, I thought I'd read the Zed used different/harder bushes than the 45? Could be wrong though!

Looks a different car already, sounds like a good project, least you got a full tank when you picked her up.

I wouldnt be surprised, I am going to get a detailed list of the differences. As for swapping the K4 for a V6, nice idea but way beyond my budget or plans. With just 19k on the 1.8 I am happy to stick with it. A full tank was a welcome bonus, I must admit!

looking good there, that colour is lovely and a bit of a shame they only did it monogram for the MK1's or part of the MK2 range....

looks like it is going to keep you busy for a while :)

It's a great colour, plus there's loads of little things missing from the ZS, like ignition key illumination and the same for the cigaretter lighter.

Should keep me quiet for a little while, I've missed the sound of a K4...

Excuse the crap 'phone shots! SLR was in the office and I couldn't be bothered to get it!

HUGE thanks to Taphouse for the ZS dial faces. Really chuffed with those mate, thanks!

Was looking at this on eBay last night:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MG-ZS-120-180-ZR-120-160-POLY-GEAR-LINKAGE-MOUNTS_W0QQitemZ290459238989QQcategoryZ10414QQcmdZ ViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%2 6itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid% 3D8006114565949188345

Trial fitted the grille this afternoon:

http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/7118/img0991q.jpg (http://img98.imageshack.us/i/img0991q.jpg/)

http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/4682/img0993n.jpg (http://img708.imageshack.us/i/img0993n.jpg/)

I'm not very happy with the colour match, it looks fine in the pics, but in the metal you can see it's not right. I need to find somewhere I can actually buy Copperleaf rather than the crap 'one colour matches all' stuff I had to buy. Plus it makes me keen to get rid of the chrome inserts and get my straights on ASAP!

Cheers matey. I am quite pleased!

postage from rimmer bros is fairly high due to postage regs, i found that out last week when i was after paint for my splitterThanks for that mate. I'm going to leave the grille as it is for the moment, I may decide to have the front bumper painted anyway, since it's got a couple of scrapes in it, and if I'm having the bumper sprayed I can always get the grille done too.

Might end up chucking on a few more bits tomorrow. Can't decide to change the wheels now or after MoT. I know I probably need new tyres for my 17"s but also know the wheels on it might get through a test, so I could spread the cost. Hmm....

Been having a bit more of a play, today:

First of all I removed all the Rover badges from the car, as well as the dealer sticker on the boot, and fitted the new MG and ZS badges:

http://img863.imageshack.us/img863/7483/tailgate.jpg (http://img863.imageshack.us/i/tailgate.jpg/)

Then I wanted to fit my 17"s. The Rover alloys had knackered tyres, so I decided I may was well swap them and get new tyres fitted to my 17"s when it goes for MoT.

First of all though I had to unwrap the unused, unopened tool kit! Just goes to show how pampered the car was!

http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/3335/toolst.jpg (http://img707.imageshack.us/i/toolst.jpg/)

Just having the alloys on makes a huge difference IMO:

http://img190.imageshack.us/img190/1742/newboots1.jpg (http://img190.imageshack.us/i/newboots1.jpg/)

http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/1223/newboots2.jpg (http://img340.imageshack.us/i/newboots2.jpg/)

I've also fitted one ZS rub strip as I've only got one so far!

http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/7516/rubl.jpg (http://img26.imageshack.us/i/rubl.jpg/)

Exterior mods done for the day I switched my focus to the interior:

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/4098/interiorchanges.jpg (http://img822.imageshack.us/i/interiorchanges.jpg/)

http://img708.imageshack.us/img708/2523/knobj.jpg (http://img708.imageshack.us/i/knobj.jpg/)

Fitted an MG wheel and airbag (the Rover one was plastic!) swapped the dash trim (managed to break the passenger side airvent-eBay here I come!) and also swapped the gearshift surround and gaiter, fitting my XPower gearknob at the same time. Couldn't do the heater surround since I need to remove the Rover CD player to swap the heater surround for my technical finish one. Next plan will be to swap the dial faces etc. for the MG ones Taphouse sent me...

Still loads to do but I feel it looks an awful lot better already, and I'm enjoying doing bits to it. Just need to lose the beige interior!

Nasty aftermarket reversing sensors. Means I have holes in the bumper...

Been thinking of dyeing my beige door cards dark red-they're only cloth and the red would make a nice change and be cheap, too. I just need to get the matching Technical finish door trims, though...

******. Turns out I couldn't swap the dial faces over-the 45 ones are subtly different to the ZS dials, particularly the temp and fuel gauges.

So I've bought a set of ZS clocks on eBay, now I need to get the miles set to read the same mileage as my Rover clocks, 19850, and I gather they need to be set up to work with the ZS?

Any advice?

skyblueads
05-04-11, 01:12 PM
Got my clocks today, look spotless. Has anyone ever swapped a set of clocks over? I seem to recall they need to be set up to work with the ZS?

Its obviously really important I keep the low mileage on the car...

A couple of minor changes:

MkII side repeaters:

http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/6706/imag0190a.jpg (http://img854.imageshack.us/i/imag0190a.jpg/)

Working MG clocks:
http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/1804/imag0191w.jpg (http://img193.imageshack.us/i/imag0191w.jpg/)
Just need to correct my mileage now!

Apologies for the crap mobile camera pics!

Ads do you remember when markus250 off ZSC when he did his 45/ZS conversion he found there were 2 or 3 different types of clocks for the ZS120 something to do with the wiring on the back

Passed the MoT today, just one advisory on the front brake calliper, advised it was a tad sticky and to sort it. Well chuffed-all but two years off the road and it went straight through.

Now got it home:

Have you been talking to my wife?

Bit more progress, headed off to a scrappy today, told me they had some 45s in and that carpets out of one would cost me ?10+ VAT. Happy with that I headed off, when I got there I found one 45:

http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/227348_10150559108750284_606925283_17827532_451504 3_n.jpg

I was going to take the passenger rear door (mine has a slight dent in it, and there is some rust starting to show where it's paint has cracked) but this one was just as bad, annoyingly. It also had the same parking scrape as my front bumper. Oh well. Took this after I got the carpets out, which was quite straight forward. Only awkward bit was the switchgear for the tailgate and fuel filler, neither wanted to budge, but I got there in the end!

http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/223523_10150559105435284_606925283_17827512_391897 0_n.jpg

New seats, new carpets...

http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/221718_10150559105730284_606925283_17827517_496692 2_n.jpg

Really pleased with how it all went it, the car looks much better inside now IMO.

Carpet cost ?10 +VAT, but I found almost a fiver in change in the scrap car! :D

I've done a bit of Project Drive on the car and left the 'Rover' chrome treadplates off, and just put the plastic back, mkII style so its a bit cleaner, happy with that, too.

Also, I think I maybe losing my mind, but I am warming to the cream door cards! The wood needs to go, but I think the cream adds a bit of light to it, what if it they were copperleaf too? Hmm...
