Well after good info from you guys (as usual) Kat and I have committed to a car, I am paying the deposit in a few minutes!

MG ZS 110 MK2 in red with full 180 bodykit and 17" wheels
Head gasket, I'm told, shows no signs of issues (but will monitor this)

It has 1 years MOT, 6 months tax and comes with a 30 day warranty for peace of mind.

It has 65,000 miles on it and is getting full major service including belts and water pump before I pick it up on Friday

All this for a few pennies over ?2k which is about ?100 less than what he wanted so am well chuffed!

And at the end of the year a MK2 180 should be joining the family to make 3 ZS's!!

So once we've had our wedding in September, the budget will focus on the MK2 180 :)

Happy smiles all round!!

Very nice find there. You wont be dissapointed Kat.
Blair you may find it slightly slightly underpowered but Im sure it will keep a smile on you face till you get back into a 180.
Fog light's for first mod ?

Smokey
17-06-11, 03:23 PM
Cheers, fogs no, exhaust yes. might get rid of a fog filler in exchange for induction set up but we have no real budget until after september so will have to wait...except for spraying the centre console silver :)

Thats a clean car Blair.

I love the colour. With 65k and the belts etc being done thats a bloody bargain.

Looks like a wee cracker for a lightweight squib

Smokey
17-06-11, 05:47 PM
Yup, pretty pleased with it and like my last mk2 180, I'll make sure it is tastefully modified lol!

Regarding the fogs, wont I need mk2 fog light and plastic suround? and would I need to have the ecu reprogrammed first or is it plug'n'play?

Will be great come January when I'll have the mk2 180 for power and this one for economy! Best of both worlds!!

Will also need a heatshield!

Ritchy
17-06-11, 06:04 PM
ehm no, the blanks unscrew and you just screw the fogs on theyre place, if you dont have aircon you can do this from above, regards to which fogs if you want them to work, you either get h11 or 1 bulbs in the fogs, the mk2 uses the h11 bulb so if you want plug and play need a h11 one, although you can just cut the connector off a h1 and just solder it on, the switch is the same on the mk2 zs and zr and yes you need it activated with t4, but if its just for looks no reason you couldnt just screw two units in and if the parts happend to become available

I hope so Jim. She is nervous of the bigger car and more power than her micra but I know she will love it!

Anyone wanna give me a lift to Dumbarton next Friday lol otherwise I'll need to slum it lol!

where locally would I get a cheapish s/s backbox? Cant find any on ebay

BUCKYDEVIL
17-06-11, 06:53 PM
I think that the red Saloon is the only one that really suits the standard tail lights.

BUCKYDEVIL
17-06-11, 06:59 PM
The 180 backbox will fit, need a custom catback though.
Xpower ones go for around ?100 when they come up less if your lucky.
If nowt is wrong with the current Zorst then just bide your time and something will come your way.
Simon in East Kilbride is your man to see for custom catback.

Smokey
17-06-11, 07:15 PM
well as there is no exhaust opening I will be fitting a heatshield and so want a cheap backbox to make it look like my old mk2

KevG
17-06-11, 07:18 PM
Blair I still have my old back box if you want?

Smokey
17-06-11, 08:21 PM
Would it fit straight on? is it aftermarket? (not too loud?) and how muchy :D

archermav
17-06-11, 08:35 PM
I think I've got an original back box from my MK2 180 in the garage mate. Just going on to nights so will check tomorrow if any good to you?

Ritchy
17-06-11, 09:20 PM
you could just trim the current exhaust and stick a tip on thats what i did to start off with, a zs180 catback will fit straight on but a 180 backbox on its own will need the flanges extended because the bore is bigger on the 1.8-2.5, not a problem if you spend 5 minutes with a grinder though

Smokey
17-06-11, 09:40 PM
Was considering the tip for a while but how obvious is it when you look at it from front and sides?

KevG
17-06-11, 09:51 PM
Blair, It is a standard OE back box from mine.

Smokey
17-06-11, 10:22 PM
Ah cheers Kev, will probably just got with tip until I can get a proper system on it.

Ritchy

depends on the tip blair:) halfords had some not bad ones, they screw at the back so you cant really see it because its under the bumper, just stuck one on the zr too

Cheers mate, cant wait to pick it up on Friday!!

Smokey
24-06-11, 01:59 PM
Well today the car arrived! Am very happy with it. especially for the money. I even managed to haggle another ?100 off the price as the drivers seat bolster looks like its been chewed up! (Looks like Grimmy's old ones!) There is also major rear bumper sag which has caused a small crack in the corner (My blue 180 had this too) but I planned on fixing the bumper sag and replacing the seats eventually anyways so ?100 in my pocket!

It has the expected dings/scratches etc for its age but there are a couple that annoy me but I will just have to live with it and isn't obvious without looking for the marks (which I do!) Other than that there is a bit of paint fade on the side skirt so will look to get that buffed up when I can.

On the plus side, the boot stays up! No severed head for me!!

Probbaly mentioned every negative lol but the car looks awesome and even the 1.6 has enough pull to overtake (better than the Micra it replaced!) and it feels really nice to drive. Sounds pretty good at higher revs too.

Planned....? Already waiting on fogs and heat surround arriving. Then its a new stainless steel backbox getting ordered.

I have also debadged it and expected a little paint discolouring but it is actually quite obvious with the red. I can clearly see a paler 'ZS' and hexagon. Is there any product out there that will completely cure this, I dont want to spend a tenner on a product that only slightly improves it as I have no issue replacing the badges, but would just like to know.

Oh, and does anyone have any spare mk2 vents kicking about? 2 of mine have missing slats which will bother me in time...not that I'm uber picky or anything! Will defo be getting a low mileage mk2 180 when the end of the year closes but that will be rare lol!

And already had 2 locals say it was a lovely colour

Smokey
24-06-11, 05:43 PM
Cheaper running costs I guess? Although we just got rid of a 1.2 Micra for the 110 so it's really costing us more!

Stephen
24-06-11, 09:59 PM
I have a nice set of 45 vents. I'l pm

Well made a list of things that needed fixed on the 110 to get it looking better so made a start.

1. All air vents working thanks in part to Jim and Corey!
2. Cubby hole to right of steering wheel was missing a crucial screw so the dash was hanging down. Now sorted :)
3. Arm rest replaced
4. Rear door wasn't locking, is now but only just. (will assess when reupholstering the door cards in red!)
5. Rear bumper spat reglued.
6. Front registration plate stuck down properly. (gonna get new ones without garage name on it)
7. Rear debadged. (will try compound to blend paint fade or replace with new badges)
8. Tightened handbrake.
9. Fitted tinted rear lights. (in picture below)
10. Fitted Sony bluetooth headunit
11. Fixed bottom front grille as was off its clips...now secure!
12. Front fogs installed (in picture below)
13. Spray centre console silver to match vents
14. Heatshield fitted
15. Repaired major bumper sag
16. Resistor pack replaced, blowers all working

STILL TO BE DONE

1. Vinyl on front splitter (and maybe spoiler) in matte black
2. Backbox fitted
3. Xenon bulbs
4. Switch to Citroen washer jets
5. Fit new steering wheel
6. Replace interior with red leather ones and do matching doorcards

More that will be done in time like fitting a PC etc but these are the basics first!

Makes the car feel that much better, sorting out all the little probs.

Yeah still not sure about what's happening with the badges. Hve now sprayed the centre console silver so will refit that tomorrow. And the bumper will be fixed (sag) and heatshield will be fitted. Will post pics when done.

Sorry for the phone pic but centre console now sprayed to match the heater vents:

The heatshield looks funny with the exhaust hidden though!

peterzs
28-06-11, 06:25 PM
Cant look any worse than the o/e derv pipe sticking out!!!

Smokey
28-06-11, 06:44 PM
Well hopefully will be gone by the weekend and a nice new stainless steel 3" inwardly rolled one will be poking out!

I also don't think I have 2 photos where the car is the same colour! iPhone camera is not that great but will get better pics once it has its exhaust fitted and is polished.

Good work ....

Smokey
28-06-11, 09:20 PM
As you suggested Grimmy. Sammy (sduk) asked the question and Kev answered it with great detail. With it in place, it looks pretty square on to the original exhaust so should be fine within a few mm's!

Another issue we discovered with the car (cos there just wasn't enough!) was the passenger seat dial to raise/lower the backrest of the seat just spun round so the seat was stuck in 'boy racer' position almost horizontal!!
With a wee bit of cursing I managed to find that a bit of plastic had broken so a simple screw repaired the job. It's a wee bit stiff but is fully functional again. Yay.

Smokey
29-06-11, 12:20 AM
Blowers now working on all four settings and new armrest in place!

That's quite a long list there in such a short time,
You don't waste time mate.
Are you gonna retrim the doors yourself ?
or get civic ones like Grimmy's ?
Either way it should look good with your car.

Sounds like fun, good learning curve.

Will be retrimming myself once I get red ZS seats mate. Still waiting on the incorrect exhaust getting picked up so in the meantime I've ordered a stainless steel 3" pipe to bolt on to the existing backbox to fill the gap left once I fitted the heatshield.

And yeah pete, my last mk2 180 had no real issues so this has been quite good fun doing instead of just reading about the fixes. Great to get my hands dirty.

On a secondary note, I use the car about 200 miles a month and Kat about 100 miles so we are seriously considering just upgrading the the mk2 180 instead of keeping both. Just seems a waste otherwise. If we do then this will be for sale come January time.

Will swap you if I can swap interiors lol

Smokey
14-07-11, 12:09 AM
Lol, you'll take that interior wherever you go now eh?! I will be looking for a 180 with less than 40k on it though Grimmy so will be saving a couple extra grand to be sure of getting the best example with the lowest mileage and immaculate bodywork.
(Plus I'd want the red interior :P )

Will hopefully have the doorcards and seats changed to red before selling anyways.
