Any how last night i knoticed my st starting to sound quite aggressive and loud inside the car lol not all bad :)

just been doing some research on line to find out the car has a noise generator fitted to all 2009 cars and mine has **** the bed and i belive its kinda stuck open

Is it a valve in the exhaust that reduces the flow at lower revs, such as fitted in some K series cars, the default fail on these is open. They are controlled by vaccum pressure in the inlet.

Sounds like this tbh, though could be slightly higher tech in the ST, would the ECU control it instead of a vacumn?? :)

your all wrong lol its a valve fitted to the induction system that allows you to hear the noise of the engine inside of the car and the call it a sound resinator :) any how mine has failed and is stuck open not all bad sounds nice its booked in for a new one covered by the warrenty

Good shout, sounds like what's fitted to the MGF.

going to ask if i can keep the old one for track days so the sound is there lol

At least on the MGR it is there to serve a practicle purpose whereas on the ford it is to serve some chav requirment to know that the engine is there!

Simon - how does it get activated? I would have thought it would be easier to disconnect it than swap them over for track days.

No cos in the Volvos, it sounds meatier due to a better exhaust system.

I was led to believe that the volvo 5 cylinder engine was borrowed from Audi and is a bored out 2.3 as used in the Quattro!

theres a pipe that goes from the inlet into the bulkhead, not just 2009 cars

Totally new engine, designed by Volvo with Ford money (when they owned them) to go in a range of top models... Volvos plus Focus ST, Mondeo, S/Max and Galaxy.

When Ford sold Volvo off, they had to buy the V5's from Sweden at a much more expensive price...........

When you get a replacement one, they come in a very nice (not joking) planed, pine crate. Wanted to keep the one we had......:clown:

Am I right in thinking the turbo is on the bottom right of the pic? Its tiny unless they have a second on the other side. What figures are they looking at getting out of the ecoboost engine and how tuneable do you think it will be?
