Has my feature in it comparing the ZS and ZT to the new MG6. You'll be able to see Pete's lovely yellow markII diesel in the mag, as it was his ZS we used for the shoot:

Pete your CD of photos is on its way, hope you enjoy the feature.

Interesting to see a decent picture of the two side by side, the 6 really is quite appreciably bigger than a ZS, which isnt exactly a small car in its own right.

Thanks Adam.

Have to buy the mag now, fun driving round a mini track, trying not to bump the car into the ZT or the MG6.

Know what one I was happiest driving home!!!

Have to say, without my biased head on, I would still pick the ZS over the 6 for looks, the 6 could have a Hyundai badge on it and it wouldn't be questioned imho.

Must admit when it was driving up for the shots and thats why we were there, still thought it was an Astra!!!

Only the oversized MG on the front, gave it away.

Nice one Peter!

When at Duxford I had a good look at the 6, thought it sat rather high and that picture shows that quite clearly. The bodyline is alot higher than the ZS.

Hi Adam. Bought the mag and thought it was a excellent write up.

Not sure about "lairy" yellow, still, better than fairy yellow.

Hows the MG6 selling???

Have to say the MG badge would suit better to and deserves something like this imho

And this was launched 2008! Cannot emphasize enough how late they are. Again... I think they should have taken the risk and made it more like the zero, and come back in style...

Don't get me wrong, I've seen some vids proving the 6 is really capable car, and I'd buy it for it's handling at least, but when it comes to the design, I'd rather have mk2 zs as well. Has far more MG spirit. I mean, look at the ride height, look at the wheel arches, compare it to the mazda 6 and you'll see what I mean...

I'd have this one:-

MG6 is almost like they didnt want to have a "in your face", car. Even the colours dont grab me.

Put it in a car park and you wouldnt find it, think its almost an apologetic feeling, or built to appeal to the "mass market.

MG's were always a sporty brand, aimed at people that like cars that were a bit different, handles and went well.

Think the new one has lost the wow appeal.

Still least its keeping the name out there.

Hit the nail on the head there, the new Mazda 6 is gorgeous, I rank it up there with the Alfa 159 - that's the market MG should be aiming at. If only, eh?

But instead, MG are having to rebuild the brand, and first of all they're bringing in the Rover replacements, then they'll have to bring out a new name to represent the 'hot' series.

They have already started showing promise that they'll do this, though, as the Roewe 550xt demonstrates;

Just need to make sure they plonk a new, decent engine in it.

Yes, I completely understand they're still struggling the "transition" but I kind of hoped they would keep more of British design along with engineering and start from there towards western market, thus make it more appealing to the European consumer... Instead, they target enormous Chinese market so can't blame them for making it more of "Chinese" looks...
Time will show what they're going to do to make it more attractive to us, for it will take some drastic design changes. Colors as well. The real downside of this strategy, if they wait for too long, they could easily put a deep "scratch" on the MG badge forever. It's easy enough to say to the Chinese audience "Hey folks, it's an MG" so, offer it and they will buy it. On this side of the globe, nah, it wouldn't work like that, where people actually know what MG was, especially us owners who love them for what they are... I'm sure each one of us has different image in his/her mind what new MG should look like, but the feeling of it would be quite similar, as it always used to be. In my opinion, they should have kept this strategy for Rover if they ever had to build it like this, but as for the MG, they should have made it much more exclusive and forget about mass production for the time being, yet increasing it gradually as the demand increases. There are many ways to do this, but it would be a long story...
Anyway, at least some of the people are back to work at Longbridge, and a couple of robots... in this pathetic excuse for a world.
