I have some blue hylomar in the shed I think, how do I apply it? Just smear it all over the face where the original gasket used to sit or just round the edges to create a seal?

All over where the gasket would go, just make sure the faces are smooth and free of any old gasket material.

I did the same with no problems as the gasket ripped into several pieces.
