First to go are the wipers, they just smear everything! So flat blades on front and normal replacement rear..... Next a ruddy good clean and polish and valet inside! Also polish the wheels so the shine again!

Oh.... And a set of black badges with a silver MG outline! Hopefully they will look tasteful!

Re the windscreen wipers, have you tried Rain-X? Most car accessory shops sell it, and I swear by the stuff.
When freshly applied you don't need wipers above 30mph, and on the odd occasion that you do use them it makes their travel much smoother. That might eliminate the smearing for less cost.
Re the badges, I think you're right and it will look tasteful. If you go to theMGZR.co.uk then there's a guy on there who goes by the name Dazzer who produces custom badges. I've had a rear Mk2 MG one off him (which is oooge!) and it looks better than OEM.

Cars looking good, got Aero flat wipers on mine.

Best thing I ever changed, had new Bosch wipers, rubbish all streaks. Put the Aero's on and streak free, clear screen.

Well like I say, no real mods, just subtle changes and keeping it tidy and more importantly keeping it running lol.

Flat blades on.

Quick Wash, still wants claybarred and polished etc

http://i643.photobucket.com/albums/uu152/theboynoz/2011-10-28172208.jpg

Also fitted the first badge to the front, a black background with silver edges so i need to get a pic of those.

Righto, decided i have already had enough of the 6 disc changer and tape (yes TAPE) head unit! But i also decided to remove it properly so i can let someone else get some use out of it..... This meant removing trim :) my favourite pastime!

When i get a weekend free again i may have to strip most of the interior and fully valet the car, then i will be happy....

The ZS is back at the garage to get that good old handbrake fixed and I also seem to have acquired a bloody flat nearside rear! Damn.

Although I may be getting a proper job done on the body by a mate that normally valets cars like Rolls Royce's etc and at ?30 I think i have a good deal!!?

cheers, should have some new centre caps for the wheels soon and some (slightly tacky?) dust caps too with new MG logos in them.....Then it should be a case of keeping her clean and tidy till i can afford the wheel refurb next year.

peterzs
01-12-11, 08:22 PM
Hope the dust caps arnt the cheap ones off ebay!!!

I bought some when I first got mine, was warned that you needed stainless ones or they would rust on. I put a bit of grease on the threads and it wasnt till one of the tyres looked a bit soft and I went to check the pressure, that I thought any more about them. (I know you should check weekly/monthly, but....)

The caps were well and truly stuck on, in the end I used mole grips to hold the valve and a spanner on the valve cap. Took quite a bit of effort to get them off.

Back to plastic dust caps now.

They did look good though.

Yeah i think they are proper ones, they are the so called anti theft Richbrook ones....

And that Valet might not happen now, bit skint until after X-Mas now, better get my cloths and cleaning gear out before it snows!

Think I will also be getting the badges made properley too as they have grown on me and I agree they are quite subtle.... Can let everyone know if they turn out ok and where i got them

...apart from round corners, over speed bumps, in multi-storey car parks, down country lanes, in insurance premiums... :fishing:

around corners- frankly you would have to be driving like a sphinctor on public roads in order for the difference to come into its own. Im not convinced lowering will upset the handling unless the road is very bumpy.

over speed bumps- Im yet to scrape on one.

in multi-storey car parks- No problem.

Down country lanes- Ill give you that one but most of the time Im on A roads / the m6.

Insurance premium- Extra £30 per year so not too fussed.

Only real problem I have is a small amount of rubbing on full lock but that will be sorted when I roll the arches and make a custom arch liner.

Thing that wins it for me is simply the looks , just look at it ^^^^

theboynoz
13-12-11, 09:49 PM
To be honest i am pretty chuffed with how it handles, even on the accelera tyres it is a damn site better than the KA and even the old 106 quiksilver i had..... But the MK2 XR2 is still the best although i did drop that 60mm. Not going to do owt to this one if i can help it, just keep it tidy and running sweet! lol

theboynoz
11-05-12, 08:26 PM
Righto, so the mods have been subtle and so far only done the Induction kit (Green) and replaced the sh1te tyres with some Falkens.... They'll do, also had all four wheels treated as two had lost air, one as i started going round a roundabout, sideways!!

Next on the hit list is the brakes, the woefull pi55 poor excuse for brakes that i have on this car......They are being replaced with some Brembos tomorrow, weather permitting, but ONLY the discs and pads, not the calipers (shame!).

Next up, domed badges in the style of the stickers i have fitted and I will find and fix the small leak in the boot....Maybe a zr160 throttle body to see what happens. Then wash it, use some G3 (or similar), polish, and some genral TLC.

Oh yeah, the cost.... Not sure if anyone else has done the Brembo disc/pad job yet, but this has cost £120 front and rear all in!

Fitted by me.

Needed a new tool (caliper wind back tool) £26 on trade and disc cleaner £4, ran out you see....

£150 total

Local (trusted) garage want that to supply and fit rear brakes only..... No brainer then isn't it?! Lol

Next up is the domed MG badges, custom made for me, but may be able to sort out more if these look good and there is interest..... Will check with the site owners first though.

Yep, does domed badges, for centre caps, front and rear MG badge, all to any colour.

As he is a Site Trader we would always want to promote his goods first.

He did Smokeys Track car and has had good feedback for all his work.

He is a guy that you can work with and I'm sure if you want a new design, he would be able to come up with something.

Hey Mate,

Getting the badges from Adam, see here Galpin Auto Vinyls (http://dev.galpinautovinyls.co.uk/). They are not yet on his site as he has only made these for me so far, but if you email he can make them up for you. He has done mine with a carbon background and silver MG outlline, almost identical to the stickers currently fitted (and in the pictures) but carbon not just black.....

Should get them tomorrow, and fit them straight away, unless the postman turns up after I have left for the babyshow at the NEC....

Finally an update, of sorts....

1) Finally got around to getting the airbag light off, I cheated as the seats are staying in for now, and removed the bulb

2) Does anyone else think my MPG is shocking? Only a 120 with an induction kit fitted..... Maybe time for a full service!

3) Was getting ready to show and shine in 3 weeks time at Harrogate and the neighbours kid decided it was time to throw stones everywhere, and yes the big one hit and dented the bonnet! Won't be fixed in time for the show, so will have to polish the feck out of the rest of the car!

Now, where was that leak again......

Been thinking of a mopre economical city type of car, seeing as ALL my driving these days is in the city centre, but each time i start looking i go for a quiet drive around the back roads on the edge of town and even there the car comes alive again, seriously only ever had this much fun in a car once and that was a FORD and about 11 years ago!

I will have to find out the price, I got them at a 'special rate' as they were the first ones he did but as I also gave the wrong measurements they were slightly too big. He is going to do them again for me as i forgot to give him the correct details! I am a plonker!

Righto chaps, after being about an inch away from buying a new car at the weekend 2 things happened;

1) I got a new insurance quote, and have saved several hundred pounds!
2) I drove the zed! (Enough said)

So.....Whilst getting ready to pop the standard airbox back in i have been thinking, obviously the servbice is overdue and will be done after i get the rear brakes fitted next week (about time! only had them for about 2 months now). Also thinking a ruddy good polish is in order, some clay barring and attention to paintwork followed by some temporary wheels.... Required for a short time due to project LOUDWheels. Not giving the game away too early, but i think a few members on here and ZR forum know what i am planning!

Anyone in the Notts area got any wheels i can borrow, or buy cheap with tyres? I should only need them for a few weeks whilst prepping and spraying, depending on weather, and not fussed about tyres as long as they are legal and fit the 120!

Otherwise i will have to take several weeks, which is acceptable, whilst spraying a wheel at a time..... i like this idea as it will make the car look funny after each weekend! :)

Anyways guys, just a note to say'Sorry, but it looks liek i am staying for a while!' lol

theboynoz
13-09-12, 01:08 PM
Second thoughts, should i just buy some new wheels (straigts) and paint them, then swap over the tyres afterwards?

Maybe that makes more sense.....

Maxfly
13-09-12, 04:06 PM
Good stuff, a right result then eh:D
Wheels sound like they will be an interesting project:D You could buy another set of straights and swap tyres over then clean up your original set and seel them on to hopefully cover your outlay for the replacment set. Could work out well if you find some for sale at a bargain price, an that are definately round not square haha. :D

theboynoz
18-09-12, 08:17 PM
Ok, so wheels are on the back burner again..... Mainly as i found a slightly annoying issue with the brakes, and had to replace a caliper at the same time as the rear discs and pads! Damn it! So, standard wheels for a while longer yet!

On the plus side this sticky caliper may be the cause of the higher MPG.... So after a few weeks and a service we shall see how many miles i can return to a tank!

theboynoz
18-09-12, 08:33 PM
Hmmmm, just had some quotes for the renewal too, and got it down almost £300 from last year! Not the biggest result though, did a quote for a 180 too, and that is only £40 a year more expensive! Hmmmm, next on the hit list may be a bigger engined Zed!

24.8MPG this month, that's it i am checking for a fuel leak, then servicing it today! Although i did pick up some diesel oil, instead of petrol D'oh!

Run the diesel oil for a couple of thousand miles then change it all again.. I've heard it cleans out the engine pretty well.

Don't hold me to that though!!

Not gonna bother mate, just off to get the right stuff now, then a good service (Oil, oil filter, air filter and airbox back in, fuel filter) as well as plugs and renewing the IACV and generally clearing out the mucky parts that are strangling the engine!

Might try a new thing too, not burning out the clutch, LMAO!

Oh, AND TAX!

Seems fair enough. :)

I've not had my ZS long and I'm currently doing a brim to brim test to see what I can get MPG wise. It's currently at the last quarter on about 250ish miles... But these gauges are damn awful!

theboynoz
29-09-12, 01:50 PM
Well mine is currently averaging 275 miles per tank, but that is normally 100% town driving so..... I get the same MPG as the V6 boys!

JoeyTaffy93
29-09-12, 01:53 PM
Oh right. This tank has been about 150 miles motorway and the rest rural with about 10 miles worth of town driving. The rest will be mostly rural too.

Well good luck with the MPG testing, you from down Redditch way?

JoeyTaffy93

Not far from Redditch. I'm in Evesham which is about 18-20 miles south of Redditch, takes me around half hour usually, sometimes a little less.

oh right, we should be moving that way as soon as we can sell our house in Notts.....If we sell it!

Anyways, service done, bloody fuel filter was a bitch, but changed and glad i did, the unused fuel that came out of it was brown! Oil dipstick says it is at the absolute max, so i shall see if it is sluggish tomorrow and drain half a litre or so if necesarry.

But overall well chuffed, was quite an easy job, only hampered slightly by the neighbours kids asking what every single thing did and my level of competence! LOL

Bad times, again, whilst cleaning the exhaust tailpipe tip as it was a chrome bit on the standard box i found that the box was making some noise....Some, baffle has disintegrated noise, and I set abpout removing the box....

Both bolts snapped and then it became apparent the box is foobarred so i need to find a new one, not too hard, or go to somewhere like Big City Tyres, as they make/fit powerflow. Basically, should i replace like for like or go get a stainless box made? Can't remember how much the boxes are made up, but i expect to spend a fair bit either way..... Damn it! Looked good after i cleaned and polished the tip too!

Oh yeah, and let's not forget to check the ARB on the rear whilst the box is out the way and it's in the air......... Oh, so the ARB is rusty as fook on both sides and the bushes and split/perished somewhat..... Still there, but defo need doing next and expalins a bit....

Best check the front asap!

Hmmmmm, how much did that set you back? Can't remember how much the last one cost me, and rimmer bros is charging £159 just for the box, then i need the gasket and bolts! I have the rubber mounts lol.

And then fit it.....

Think it was £250, was about 4 years ago, think s/s prices have gone up a bit now.

Saved a lot of hassle.

Hmmm, i have powerflow and longlife suppliers/fitters near me so going to get a price tomorrow (right now it sounds like Plato's BTCC car), and then goign to ask at the auto factors near wok. At least i will get a gasket and bolts and refit the old box as a temp fix....

Have also been quoted a rough price over the phone of £180 from Longlife in Notts, i assume Powerflow will be the same sort of price so what to do. Standard i have found all the parts for £80 ish....

Right, getting close to selling time and i am not getting another car to replace this one *he exclaimed*. Though i probably will till Feb time.

Just getting fed up with the car/traffic/frost etc, and the bus stop is at the end of the road....£50 a month for a few months till i get the motor bike, or keep on paying for the car?!?!

Anyone wanna make an offer? May pop this into the sale section in a week or so, i guess it depends when the baby arrives....

Thanks, need to sort the normal dodgy door handles, drivers one snapped last night (which means BOTH front ones need replacing!) and the passenger door lock server thingy, then just give her a ruddy good clean and polish and get her sold now.... Will be a shame to see her go, but needs must and aonce the baby is here i need to start saving where ever i can.....

Meh, maybe....

i will be as honest as i can be, if anyone asks any questions.... A lot of love went into this car, and will be a shame to see it go, but we are nearly there...... I may get a runabout for the winter months and then a bike, or maybe even a real scooter for Feb onwards?

Ha, i can't even make a sale thread as i am not a supporter anymore! Man that sucks!

If anyone wants to start one for me i'd appreciate it, not sure what forum rules are like regarding that, but if i cannot then i guess good old ebay, gumtree and pistonheads will have to suffice......

This sucks, wish i could keep it, but needs must and it does mean i get to ride a motorbike again! Been a while :)

So depressing, looks like the car may be going before Christmas although not sure yet as i have had offers from dealers around the £300-£400 max mark.....and so far on ebay the best offer is £500! I have spent more than that on tyres and the exhaust alone! FFS..... Only got it up at £750 anyway, and that has been reduced twice from £1200 start to £895 to £750........ Can't even bloody post an ad on here as i am not a paid up member anymore.... Bums! Well here is a cheeky link, mods please feel free to ask me to remove it, or remove it yourselves, PeterZS, let me know if i need to remove this.....
