View Full Version : My fleet of RC Cars

Following on from the snow thread, here's some shots of my "fleet!"

I'm a bit of a sucker for Tamiya models so over the years I've build up quite a few... with a few other mixed in from Kyosho and HPI that add to about 80 - 90... I've not counted recently :joker:

One of my favourites, and one of my best pictures. Taken for a comp on the Tamiyaclub world owners club it ended up coming second

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/61775_153217701370062_100000455006145_361869_82221 03_n.jpg

The truck that more or less started it all, the Traxxas EMaxx... the truck that actually got me my user name as the first forum I ever joined was for RC car racing!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/61640_153217748036724_100000455006145_361871_19089 64_n.jpg

The Kyosho Blizzard - fantastic fun in the snow

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/61640_153217751370057_100000455006145_361872_80321 84_n.jpg

The HPI Baja 5B... insane fun and a deadly weapon if it ever hit you! :axe:

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/61640_153217764703389_100000455006145_361876_64757 55_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/302897_288631891161975_100000455006145_1025678_111 9229606_n.jpg

My Tamiya Mountaineer... the oldest model I own and probably the most vauable

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102298876461945_100000455006145_59544_726185 _n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102237273134772_100000455006145_58389_526354 8_n.jpg

All the Impreza's together

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102237306468102_100000455006145_58392_711012 0_n.jpg

The Juggernaught... it's a bit of a monster

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102237443134755_100000455006145_58404_759999 3_n.jpg

The Aeromax. A total swine to drive as it's so damn big and heavy. This one is probably the most expensive as it runs 6 channel radio gear and everything is automated. it looks, sounds and acts like a real truck

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102237446468088_100000455006145_58405_379980 _n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102491893109310_100000455006145_64214_278540 2_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/405261_346481585377005_100000455006145_1199094_350 483754_n.jpg

My little F201 F1 car. Carbon fibre everything and proper inboard cam driven suspension. I love this car

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102491896442643_100000455006145_64215_624096 6_n.jpg

Godzilla - the Nissan Skyline R34 Z Tune replica I made up with full lighting kit

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102237459801420_100000455006145_58408_115853 3_n.jpg

My old racing colours from back in 2005 when I was sponsored by Morrisons MG garage in Stirling

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/11559_102491899775976_100000455006145_64216_534681 _n.jpg

The Crawler project I put together back in the days when rock crawling was still a bit underground and you couldn't buy kits off the shelf. This one started life as a Tamiya TXT1 that was modified until the point only the chassis and axles were original!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/34816_184109358280896_100000455006145_546246_83374 02_n.jpg

and the rest of team orange. My current Tamiya TRF 416 racing chassis (imported from Japan) and HPI Micro RS4

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/166484_184112904947208_100000455006145_546274_6684 3_n.jpg

And the last time they were all together in one place in the back garden

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/61640_153217761370056_100000455006145_361875_75814 33_n.jpg

and all the stuff that lives in the loft

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/163189_183358588355973_100000455006145_541723_1258 93_n.jpg

That lot would fill my house!
Used to have a Tamiya 406, Mini and S2000. Loved them all but got smashed to pieces as the only place I could run them was on the road!
Was offered my mates 1:6 Kyosho Impreza but its just to big and fast! Would love a nitro one day.

A very nice selection Ross.

cheers lads. I've been running these since 1999 and only stopped racing at the end of last year when my local club went bust.

It's been a long and exciting time in places. I found a Tyrell 6 wheeler in my ex girlfriends uncles loft and he just gave me it... the car was mint and worth a silly amount of money.

Then there was the TA05 powered Ferrari F430. I had good links with a few guys in Japan and I had my kit built and painted the day after it was officially launched in Japan - and a week before anyone else in Europe got hold of one.

almost if not every car in that group picture has a story to it

Wow! Some nice little beasties youve got there :)

Would love to one day have a couple of nitros.

Maxxed_Ross
11-02-12, 12:36 PM
nitro is a total pain in the ass, I've only got 3 and they hardly ever run these days

the Baja is 2 stroke and much more user friendly, starts without any issue even after sitting for months, is much cheaper to run (at todays prices roughtly 50p of unleaded and 2 stroke oil per tank - a tank lasts about 30 mins if you drive flat out everywhere!) and is faster

I just don't have the space. Around 10 are on display in my games room

I put in some nice floating shelves for my favourites, the rest are on the top of some wardrobes and the big rig lives over the TV

I've got a 400 brushless helicopter somewhere. It crashed badly on my first outing and hasn't flown since

Love the thread, you wouldnt believe it till you have seen them all.

Great collection, and I thought I was lucky to have a remote helicopter to play with.

We live near the New Forest and used to see a couple of guys running some cars on the grassy slopes, did go well.

cheers Pete. There's loads of pictures on that photobucket link but I'm sure there are a few cars missing, as I've been doing this since before I actually had a digital camera!

My ones a £14.99 special.

So good, its not got a name, made in China, Gyroscope, No. 9808.

Flashing LED's flys in the house, good fun, chasing the dog with it, he cant make it out.

Is easy to fly, we bought one of the grandkids one, spent all night fighting to have a go. So I bought 2, his and hers, sept hers isnt interested in racing, or seeing who can land on a plate!!!!!!!!!!

Women,,, dont know what they are missing, still, if I crash my yellow one know I have backup.

Was just thinking of scanning ebay, remote controlled cars!!.

I'm on my third one now, first one broke, was a decent gyro one with alloy chassis I bought from the night market in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Youngest daughter bought me another for xmas and that got my interest again. Then recently bought another, Syma S032G, not bad bit of kit and a really easy to fly. I'm no expert so gradually getting bigger.

Great collection there mate . ive had a couple my first was a hsp cheap and cheerful nitro didnt last long , but then i got the bug so went out and bought an ansmann kyrptonite truggy with a 28 nitro engine my god it was the biggest laod of junk ever had loads of issues with the rear diff letting go and when the engine let go i thought bin it lol . I then bought my traxxas rustler vxl and i,ve never looked back i will always stay with electric now i,m running it on 3s lipo and its damn quick traxxas claim 70mph + but god knows how they do it mine just wants to take off lol .

Took my little gyroscope out in the garden, went well!!!!

Bit too well, up in the air, tried to shut it down but just carried on going up, drifted over the fence into next doors garden. Felt like a little lad again, "can I have my helicopter back, please".

So...... tried again, kept away from that side, wooosh up and away, over the other side fence. The grandkids had just arrived so went round with one of them and blamed her!!!!!!!!!!

Neighbour was impressed with my £14.99 bargain, even more so when the 7 yr old grandson proceeded to show him how easy it was to fly....

Thanks Ross, RC car ummmmmmmmmm.

OK, I'll pop out and get some more rechargeable AA's.

I'd better get some practice in.

I've got a paste table we use for car booting, will that do, with a sheet or something over it. Or do we want something more substantial for our club stand??

I've got a Raptor 50, a Zoom 400, and my personal favourite is a T-Rex 450.

Here's what the T-Rex looks like, although I'd need to practise for a few years solid (and have an unlimited spares budget) if I wanted to become as good a pilot as this...

Bit like my one, except mine was in the lounge and only stopped when it crashed up into the peardrop glass dangle bits of the lights, followed by shouts and screams!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, I'll pop out and get some more rechargeable AA's.

Rechargables are not recomended for flying RC aircraft as the fade rate when they go flat is much more rapid than disposables.

Having said that, the helicopeter Mrs TC got me for christmas has a built in rechargable battery pack, it does go flat very quickly.

Maxxed_Ross
14-02-12, 08:31 AM
it's a labour of love lol

the number if times I've had a proper wobbly fit when one of my race cars broke during a race or the batteries dumped (went off) early... and it always happens when you're doing well never when you're at the back anyway!

I snapped my extremely expensive import only (at the time there were only 3 in the UK) Evolution III chassis in half the first night I used it after clipping one of the sports hall roof supports at full speed. I hit the post so hard the carbon fibre chassis de-laminated and actually ripped apart in layers.

I wasn't a happy bunny that night
