View Full Version : ZS Clock
I was thinking the other day that one thing I miss from the 75 was the "computer" where I could see things such as Average MPG etc.
Then while I was changing my broken clock over I thought... this is a load of wasted space (Look at the size of the clock LCD compared to the size of the clock unit)
So it got me thinking... would it be feasible to empty the standard clock insides out and modify the casing to accept a larger LCD screen, and then install some other internals that could be hooked up to the ECU or whatever and provide information such as MPG and maybe even hooked up to the VIS indicators to provide info through the screen?
So what would I need to make that work? lol

Doing some research and I have come across this project...

It would need a lot more brain power than I have, who do we know that sorts all our server/computer problems on the site out?????????????????
:smile2::smile2::smile2:
That would be so much better than my busted clock!! I want one.

Been running one in my car for 2 years on gauges.
Also if the EML comes on due to my decat I can clear it on the move.

Nice idea, might look in to putting one of these together for myself. Could program it at uni, did a similar to measure rpm of a motor and display a bar style graphic on an LCD display.

or how about a little head up display that would be cool.
Something I would be interested in but also get these details on the carPC through OBDII
Scangauge is fine, but would it fit in the clock space of the console? And can it display the time?

You dont need to know the time just buy a watch lol
I recently brought a ELM327 Bluetooth to connect to my phone with torque
Scangauge looks like a much nicer way of doing it though
might have to buy one now :)

i mounted mine on the rear view as i thought it looked a bit **** just balanced on the top of the steering cowling. plus if you want to change any of the info displayed whilst your driving you would have to stick your arm through the steering wheel, accident waiting to happen that is.
I've seen someone who hollowed out the area where the heated seat blanks are on the MK2 centre console and mounted the scangauge there. I had considered removing the clock but the option buttons mounted either side on the SG display are set just a bit wider than the gap the clock sits in obscuring the buttons.

Can't really see that picture... but if I can get hold of a scangauge I will look into the feasibility of fitting it in the clock arpature :)
Also like this idea...

Could always take it apart to relocate the buttons, sure it could be made to fit where the clock is.

Oh yes, I'm deffo getting me one of those when funds allow. Wonder if I can mount it in the centre console somehow? Or maybe the blanking plate on the speedo cowl would be good

One day I plan to adapt a steering column cowling so the gauge sits better.
I reach around the wheel to press switches.
The mirror looks neat.

here is where mine lives

sorry for the poop photo, garage is pretty dark
may try and move it up to where the clock should sit, but it will require some trimming of the scan guage so it fit between the switches.

I have a vent grip for my Galaxy Note, so I am going to get a decent OBDII bluetooth device along with torque pro and just link it up via b'tooth. Job done. And I can have the time on there, floating around on the screen! ;)
