Better MPG in the ZR?
Better Insurance cost in the ZR?

ZR is more desierable to the Boy Racers... thus supply and demand kicks in.... (I mean it is more of a Boy Racer car than the ZS is!)

Not a clue, regarding insurance I paid £700 to insure my 180 but when I got the 105 zr they all wanted 1000!

Chav car innit. Seriously, it is sought after by the younger generation as it is seen as a sporty hatch and plenty of aftermarket goodies to ruin it. I've noticed the same trend as well.

small economical cars tend to hold their value with age more than a bigger engine old car which is often viewed as uneconomical, expensive to tax insure & run.

Cheaper to run - simples.

I'm "looking" at the moment at chopping the beemer and the C4 for something around the 17-18K mark.

Looking at a BMW 3 or 5 series. As an example - for the same price as a 320d manual with cloth, you can get a 330 petrol auto with leather that when new cost way more - all down to running costs.

Probably for the same reason that ZS's go for more then ZT's despite the ZT being far better built :fishing:

I think you undervalued your ZS and overvalue your ZT! Harsh reality is that there are plenty of dreamers that think ZT's are worth a lot but if you hang out on the ZT forums it's a little depressing what they really change hands for. I've seen really nice 2003 190's going for less then a grand, and in fact I bought my 190 which is a 53 plate and had just over 70k on the clock for around £2k, and I only paid that much because it was from someone with a good reputation on the forum who had just replaced the clutch and slave cylinder and it's got LPG, oh plus it's in probably the best condition of any car I've owned!

The ZT's and ZS's are both absolute bargains at the moment, ZR prices are just over inflated.

ZR`s are advertised at more, but in reality aren`t selling. unless it`s sub £800, they don`t sell.

Personally I'd rather spend less on a ZS and get more car than a ZR !!

We managed to get £1300 as a trade in on our ZR when we bought the ZS (although I'm beginning to regret that now) so they do still hold their money better then the bigger Zeds. I think it is all down to the long term running costs, when dealing with older cars you tend to be dealing with more thrifty motorists who want something cheap to run. I used to go to car auctions a lot (my step-dad was a car dealer) and even back then always saw very nice big engined cars getting shoved through for peanuts.

Anyway I'm not complaining, had my ZT had a BMW badge on it I would probably have had to pay nearer £4k and every time I needed a spare part I'd need to take out a small mortgage!

Couldn't agree more! The ZS just handles and goes soooooooooo much better then the ZR did. Was hugely disappointed the first time I got our ZR out on a twisty B road :(
