I have an 063 fitted and works fine. Suppose it depends on other items fitted that may draw too much.

mainly need the battery for starting tbh, the alt should be able to supply everything while driving, battery shouldnt be able to discharge while driving at all

Correct but using too many accessories while driving will reduce the charge to the battery and driving short distance will not recharge it.

Especially during winter when you use window and mirror heaters along with wipers. They're all big consumers. Luckily, petrol ones use less current to start. For my derv I'd always choose strongest option possible that would fit the battery tray.

same with the Defender, always buy the best you can afford because you never know when you're going to need it!

I've always found TMS to be a good price for batteries around the central belt, but I dunno if they sell to the public

Me personally would always use the best I can afford, it's worth trying the scrappy to be fair you could find a good battery in there i bought a yellow top gel battery in a scrappy once and was charged 30 quid for it, if you search the Internet for this type of battery you'll see what a bargain I got, the only reason it didn't go on the zed was the terminals where flat and not round

063 is the physical size, 063 are usually about 55ah

tbh i can be out in the middle of no where in the middle of winter and i dont fancy a dead battery so bought the best one i could afford

Last winter I started my derv with a half decent 55 Ah battery on -26 degrees celsius but next day it was already shot. Simply too cold for the chemistry going on in there. I'm saving for a decent 77 Ah and over 800 amps this winter!

You are welcome bow I am getting well confused - according to http://www.eurocarparts.com/car-battery the ZS uses an 065 which is slightly larger and nearly twice the price!

Ah is amp hours i.e. how long it can supply x number of amps, i.e. a 55 aH battery will be able to supply 5.5amps draw over 10 hours, and the cca is the cold cranking amps, tbh as said a 063 should be able to do what you need if your on a budget, the bigger battery is fitted to the v6 because its a bigger engine to turn over than the k4, again diesel has higher compression so they are always fitted with big batterys too

Cheers mate i knew the 180 needed a biggish battery because of the engine size but started to get lost and confused there for a minute, it seems i can get a recommended one from euro car parts for around the 40 quid mark so not to bad in the end, will probably order it next week when its payday.

Be very careful with non genuine batteries mate. Their size doesn`t always fit the ZS.

What is a non genuine battery?

Nice thing about eurocar is you can check the physical dimensions of the battery.

As in, not OEM.

Batteries can be described as OEM spec but diffferent dimensions. I`ve had problems with cheap ones before. Fouling the headlight.
