There is some nice discount on offer if we get a few people interested. Rolling road being tested tomorrow but I for one will be waiting til after payday, maybe even end of October to give me chance to save up.

I'll copy the email response in later. We will need to put down a deposit but I'm guaging how much interest there is for now.

Quack quack.

Why did you have it done twice peter?

Put new panel filter, corrected the boost, new exhaust, cat died and was replaced, or not.. Roverron box of tricks.

Then took it down to tune it for economic running............... if you know what I mean.

Then found I need replacement injectors...............

So that was the two trips, first was plus 20, second was plus 24, that was on top of the +20, with 212, and 236.

Couldnt live with the black smoke so o/e inj now.

Did ask him if it was worth having another remap, but he reckoned I would not gain anything and it would still cost £200 odd, so didnt bother.

:yes::yes: :laugh::laugh::laugh:

I can fully endorse Reidy Re-maps, as i happen to be an agent for him.

Fantastic service, spot on re-maps, brilliant value for money.

I will guarantee that nobody will be left dissapointed.

Definatly interested - need to know cost and date.

One question though - will you get the same attention to detail that you would if you didn't go in a group?

Good point cant see them getting through a whole group in one day. Wouldnt want a generic map, especially with the cams!

If this goes ahead then I would suggest Matt be sent a list of the cars interested and detail the mods of each car so he can gauge what can be mapped with my original map etc as James rightly pointed out a cammed one will be bespoke.

I am expecting each car to be tweaked individually. I'm sure Matt won't mind me quoting his email convo here:

I will be testing the rolling road tomorrow all being well so not far off.

3, 5,7 and 10 are the cut off points. Normal price for a mg remap on the dyno is £220 first level of discount is £20 off each, next is £35 of each, next is £50 off, next is £70 off.

Realistically max of 7 in a day but if all pay a deposit then we can split them over two days.

1 - £220
3 - 200
5 - 185
7 - 170
10 - 150 >>> let's aim for here yeah?

Awaiting response from: "Would you spread it over two or three weekends? How much deposit? Definitely one for after payday. I'll get an idea of numbers and get back to you."

As for when, we'll see who is interested and I'l make a google calender or something, could be useful for other stuff too like the do stuff meets.

Re the attention/time taken. Can those who already have one comment on how long it took? Looks like we'd be given about an hour each which seems ok for tweaking a generic map to suit? I've only heard good things so if Matt says he can do 7 cars I would expect to be pleased with the result.

Congrats Craig, get used to not having time to clean your car. Somehow I've managed about 8 hours of tweaking and two quick washes in a month...

I cannot comment on time taken as mine was the first KV6 to be done by Matt and hence became the benchmark some 3.5 years ago! Still pulling well and smooth today. We took all day and some 11 or so runs until we maxxed it out and it got too warm.

Make sure your engine is in tip top condition, VIS working well or you will be disappointed if they are not. Also know before you go which grade fuel you intend to stick with as he can map for standard 95 RON or go for 98/99RON, but make sure before you go and put the right fuel in!

DuckFeet
20-09-12, 08:25 PM
Probably one for matt but u assumed map for 98 and let the knock sensor do the rest. I've dabbled with 98 but usually just use 95. Which do you recommend?

stamford
20-09-12, 08:28 PM
The sensors and standard map can only take so much, the rest needs to be tweaked within the map to make the most of the changes, might not be a lot but at the top end it'll make a difference plus economy.

is it worth getting a standerd 180 remapped??

stamford

is it worth getting a standerd 180 remapped??

No, best use the money on breathing mods first then look at a remap, gains are minimal but in the long run good for economy and if doing the occassional trackday you'll see a difference at the top end. The more mods done the more it'll improve the car overall. As any nasp car you will not see figures like you would on any diesel.

I'm still on standard midsection, the rest is Janspeed. I assume a stainless midsection later won't make enough difference to count. I know you should do modd first then remap but I don't count midsection as a power increasing mod.

Also my mil comes on since fitting Janspeed manifolds, do I need to fix this first? I have a spare sensor I can butcher.

didnt think it was worth getting non turbo cars remapped
how much power can the get out of a 180 with mild mods?

(Also we should do a club dyno day ;))

Thanks for te congrats, oh yes well aware of the limited time to play around with the car. My 4 year old loves to come and "help Daddy" when I'm either cleaning or tweaking things which is lovely but sometimes a bit of a slower way of doing things so when no 2 comes I no my time on car will almost vanish lol.
Luckily I have a very understanding mrs that knows my interest in cars will never go so she allows me to get on with things as and when I can afford to do it. (obviously between the more important things lol)

If we find out a date rather than time as I worded it wrong then yeah once we know that I would be very interested. Few minor mods on mine so hopefully would see a reasonable gain if it all works out :)
Will keep a watchful eye for updates...

Not wanting to open a can of worms here we are not talking big figures as already mentioned but improving the standard map which is poor when analysed. I was happy with the changes so for me was worth the money when compared with what gains manifolds can give considering their costs.

From a rough average standard of 177 mine rose to around 191 with decat, cat back exhaust and a BMC CDA induction, when remapped this rose by another 9-10 so in my book not too bad. However as said the top end is where the changes were seen as the AFR was poor on the standard map.

Bottom line is the figures are for pub talk.

Meaning it's all about the afr/smoother drive? I would like to be sure my afr is right and get a bit more grunt/mpg. So long as all is healthy and it feels nicer to drive I don't care what the actual numbers are* but to put the effect of the map into perspective, assuming:

175 standard
+ induction = 185
+ full exhaust = 195
+ remap = 205???

Aiming at low/midrange not top end as it's a daily driver. Also my MIL appeared the other day. Do I get this sorted, map round it, or ignore it??
Does one opt for power/mpg high/low end or is it a case of just 'better'? I assume worse emissions is the downside, pah. I read that our 227g/km would be more like 200 using todays testing methods so I figure I've got 10% to play with for the tax we pay :)

Good idea to service the car before going eh, my plugs are at leat 2 years old.

*If i pull 160 on the first run I'll be mad. Better pack my soldering iron...

stamford
21-09-12, 09:19 AM
Not sure what figures would be seen if manis are fitted, still guess around 200 maybe a little more, each car is different. Economy will improve slightly but will only be noticed when driven sensibly! :D It will also be a little smoother. It won't be noticed straight off as most will be experiencing placebo when driving home, it's a natural thing. Over time you will notice the difference when things settle down and the novelty has worn off when fed up visiting the pumps!

Craig-ZS180
21-09-12, 10:53 AM
If i can manage to get mine done whenever this happens I would be pleased with it hitting close to the 200 area tbh. Either way just knowing the car was performing better than it has before would be enough to please me

as a past regular customer i can recommend matt's work ( i had 'tweaks' so frequently in the first few years i got a tweak price rather than paying full price each time  - I guess he is moving the dyno to the ramp location opposite the door so that he dont have to worry about the fumes as much lol. i think the wall after one of my runs still bears the 'matt was 'ere' written in soot :D

Would love to pop down for the day - but prob going to be too busy for the next few months and still waiting on the magic box of trick in order to get full throttle usage back...

hope you all get what you are after :)

Coolio I was just wondering as my car already has a Superchips remap (was like it when I brought the car) and wondered what sort of increase you get.

Superchips are only valid for standard cars as it is a generic map. A remap is where the map is interrogated and adjusted to suit the mods already done. The superchip does not know what mods you have had fitted, therefore it is mapped against what?

Matt uses my base map as the way in and checks this with what has been done and adjusts it accordingly. No two cars are ever the same so there will be differences. Some are good some are not so.

Its mapped against a standard zs180.
Its still better than a standard map because as you said the standard map isn't all that good. A custom remap would be better and thats where my money would of been spent but as I said its had been done when I brought the car and im not going to spend another £150+ to gain 4-5bhp

Superchips claim there's a 12bhp increase on the zs180 but I think we all know thats utter poo  they claim there's a 8bhp increase on the st170 (bluefin)
but youll only get 5bhp if your lucky.

Mine had a superchip map fitted before I owned it, and apparently the car actually dropped in power so it was removed. Had the chip with the map on somewhere but think I threw it out one day.

Need to speak to Matt as not sure if Murray had him map it already :hmmm:

It pulls very well had a few ex zs owners drive it and say the same but its hard to tell
might have to take it to hitech and get it on the rollers :)

I may have to cancel on my own group buy, plonker! Wayner in Swindon is an agent and will save me about a tankful of fuel going there instead. I'm asking for more details and if a group buy is available there are the interested parties still interested?

When I hear back I'll have to put a list in the first post to decide if/when we have reached the cut-off to all get mapped.

Captain Slow

I'll be interested but once I've got my Janspeed manifolds & system fitted.

DuckFeet
02-10-12, 09:53 AM
Another update: Wayne may be able to host this in Swindon. Is that any better/worse for those interested? Makes about 4 hours difference in travel time for me!

I'll start a list:
name - car - location preference - Price preference? - mods??
Duckfeet - zs180 - swindon - aiming at 175. - full exhaust, BMC

Obviously price as low as possible, but put a cut off if relevant. How does a weekend in November suit?

Where are you based Captain? You can save a few quid fitting these yourself :)

Captain Slow

I'm in Bedfordshire. I'm ordering off Powertrain and I will fit them myself all being well :)

I'm travelling to UK the first weekend in November. If this happens that weekend, I'm in!

name - car - location preference - Price preference? - Date prefs - mods??
Duckfeet - zs180 - swindon - aiming at 175. - * - full exhaust, BMC
pheelay - ZS180 - Swindon - <200 - 2-6th Nov - BMC,Custom catback exhaust,Decat,98RON

Added date prefs to the list. Majority rules!
