Thought I'd stick up my build project of a slightly different nature to the normal :evo:

It's taken well over 2 months worth of building and a whole load of swearing. At a few points I thought I may have overdone it for my first ever custom truck build - but it all came together in the end.

The start of the projects was simple enough... building the chassis!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/483249_456678991023930_1506239379_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/602473_456901974334965_227117508_n.jpg

Rolling chassis finished and 'Roo Bars installed

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/311538_456996447658851_902488741_n.jpg

Then the gearbox was built up. It seems a shame to cover it up as it has a working 3 speed transmission!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/556640_457345380957291_1433923454_n.jpg

Next job was fitting the custom headache board from America. True to it's name it was a total pain to fit.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/389160_457503484274814_982085826_n.jpg

Test fitting the body to make sure it cleared everything so far

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/576235_457644920927337_246498589_n.jpg

Then the work started on the front spot lights. Made by RC4WD they are really designed to go on scale offroad 4x4s, but with a bit of tweaking they were mounted onto the front bars

https://fbcdn-sphotos-e-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/418631_457672384257924_1576179980_n.jpg

Then the exhaust stacks were started as they were also going to get a bit of customizing

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/311636_458123307546165_1405632873_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/396955_458138170878012_1645245177_n.jpg

I then fitted the hazard beacons a nice guy for Germany custom made for me. They look fantastic lit up - just like the real thing!

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/526595_458178430873986_1817273694_n.jpg

And in another first for me the body was sanded down and filled to allow the use of King Hauler air cleaners

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/547258_472068786151617_1225047696_n.jpg

Starting to build up and sticker the body

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn1/564493_473051212720041_173830738_n.jpg

A good friend then wrapped my existing box trailer white for me (a nicer finish than paint and far less hassle!)

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.451580498200446.107921.100000455006145&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=472010342824128&set=a.451580498200446.107921.100000455006145&type=3&theater

Once the second trailer turned up they were both stickered up Aussie style.

https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/304930_484015528290276_2067581794_n.jpg

And then it was time for the MFU (multi-function unit) fitting. I almost had to take the whole truck apart again to get it fitted neatly. Not a fun task at all

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/396442_481490665209429_1998950954_n.jpg

Worth it though! Also a sneaky shot of my personalized Queensland plates

https://fbcdn-sphotos-c-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/300908_483094715049024_1641173735_n.jpg

Truck cab finished with its black bonnet

https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/3709_484016064956889_676687767_n.jpg

The dollie for the rear trailer was made using the chassis from a Scania and the suspension from the pole trailer

https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc7/385725_488859797805849_996446826_n.jpg

So into the final stage, getting the trailer lights to work on all 3 trailers. Again a total total pain to do but well worth the final result. They looks fantastic

https://fbcdn-sphotos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/227888_482882848403544_172635224_n.jpg

https://fbcdn-sphotos-a-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/576920_489164564442039_731920435_n.jpg

First test

Then the final touch, fitting the raised air intakes and painting the tyres. I had to do this with a pin head!

Some serious effort gone into that, I assume a fair bit of cash too! I used to be into nitro r/c cars years ago so still have a soft spot for stuff like this. Must admit though, that little motor will be working hard even if it does have a 3 speed gearbox :P

Great job Ross, loved the pics and story. Thanks for taking the time to post it all. Know the temptation is to keep your head down and crack on with it. Must be well disciplined, to stop and get the camera to do a photo build like this.

Going to put it into a Truck Race now???

And I thought I was doing well with my £12.99 r/c helicopter.

Think it looks awesome, great attention to detail, lucky you didnt have anything else being built at the same time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks lads! it's always nice to hear kind words about a project. I have to admit I am quite supprised with myself about how well it turned out. I really need to get proper pictures of it outside though

Well the other white lump was away having work done by a specialist, so I needed something to keep me busy :joker:

thanks again lads.

The kit came from Hong Kong from a contact I still keep in touch with from my racing days, I used to buy a ton of stuff from over there. You can get them on ebay here but are a little bit more expensive.

Bear in mind you'll need at least a 4 channel radio, 3 servos and a ton of paint to finish it.

the MFU unit cost nearly the same as the truck did!

then each trailer did cost the same as the truck lol

In short it's a silly expensive hobby, but it kept me busy for literally months and it does keep you entertained for hours after.

That is an epic build, I don't think I'd have the skill or patience for something like that.

Looks great Ross! I'm jus starting an r/c track in my sons room. Track will be wide enough for 4x 1:24 cars (about 40cm wide) can't really find cheap but good quality cars with lights at this scale though, well, not many options! Plus most brands all use same frequency!!

haha I'll be sorting that out soon. Going to take a trip to the local container port to try and get some "scale" pictures... so that'll mostly involve me rolling around the ground!
