Well I have bought a 2004 mk2 saloon 120 with bodykit 73000 with HGF and a 1997 620ti for it's T16 engine only 60000 miles. The torture begins!

Trust the 620 is a dead one.

Smokey

Why would it matter? Surely you'd want a working one?!

Why would it matter? Surely you'd want a working one?!

because 620ti's are awesome and its a shame that people keep ripping them to bits?

Smokey
23-11-12, 09:09 PM
But then you are making an awesome ZS instead?

WalkerDnB
23-11-12, 09:13 PM

No there's already plenty of awesome ZS's about :p lol

Smokey
23-11-12, 09:15 PM
True, I own one! But a T16 with 250BHP (useable) would be more awesome still!

Your right mate I just like 620ti's shame to brake one unless its rotten
I might have one one day once I get bored of the V6 sound (It that ever happens) :)

grimmy

Get a 600 and put the kv6 in it.now that would be an awesome car.

Smokey
23-11-12, 09:48 PM
Would that not be a downgrade in power?

welshone
23-11-12, 09:50 PM

Not if you supercharge it ;)

that does sound good a nice black 600 with KV6 SC :D

WalkerDnB

a little bit the toque would probably make up for it

Smokey
23-11-12, 09:51 PM
How much did the 600 cost?

grimmy
23-11-12, 10:37 PM
Would have made it a nice big luxury cruiser.

Smokey
23-11-12, 10:42 PM
True, not the prettiest thing in my eyes though. I've been desperate for a T16 conversion but if I get rid of my rattle, I won't be as eager as I love the power I have.

Have found 2 unmolested 620ti for silly money, this being the cheapest http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/rover-620ti/1002861962

I've still got a spare (possibly forged but would need to strip it to find out) T16 if anyone wants to make a silly bid on it!

Mines a mk2 so wouldn't be the same as your special edition. Which in turn is different to Dan's mk1. We'd be the full white set!!

Maxxed_Ross
23-11-12, 11:17 PM
ah sorry I thought you were on about the track car since you've already dabbled in white with it. I have to admit the Mk2 in white does look fantastic!

If it wasn't for the £1k price tag of a new front bumper for mine I'd be fitting the Mk2 conversion kit I have waiting for the first time I bump it :D

When they are that cheap, is it any wonder why they get ripped apart?

The irony is that the 600 was probably the best platform that Rover ever used the T16 turbo in, it shares a very similar suspension set up to a zs, and can be made to handle very well

Yeah 620 is past fixing bodywork is bad but engine and box is good, runs sweet.

new pic of engine, the guys at sos-automotive in Huntingdon, cambs are rebuilding the T16 and a fantastic job they are doing too.New timing belt and tensioner fitted today and a load of gaskets and parts had arrived while i was looking at the progress, cant wait! it looks so coooool this engine, the guy at sos-automotive is going to make a tubular exhaust manifold for me he thinks total price will only be about £290 in s/steel. gearbox has been cleaned and checked too.

what's the power expectation?

Dan1971
29-11-12, 08:42 PM
I'd be interested in the cost side too as I'd also need someone else to do the work.

ZSONE80

Bigger turbo, better manifold and bigger intercooler 230ish

Smokey

The whole project is a lot of work for 30bhp over a lightly modded 180.

Other than VAG, is there no other way of getting 270+ out of one of the rover/mg engine?

petet16
29-11-12, 08:57 PM
It'd be worth getting your man who's doing the manifold to make you a one piece down pipe to replace the cast turbo outlet.

I'm starting off at low figures as I want to keep the cost reasonable but even at 230 it will walk all over a v6 I think. At a latter date when toy funds allow the internals can be changed and then "to infinity and beyond" lol. I still need funds for interior mods and a full respray even though I will spray it myself.

My mate Victor was running 283bhp on his T16 maestro, ok, he did have forged internals, bored out to 2.2, bespoke turbo and emerald managment.

It was running nearer to 300 bhp but was undrivable.

His car was the one the Steve Berry drove on topgear - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYB0TOVMjiU

but this was filmed long before he did most of the mods.

Yep, more boost, forged pistons, Siemens 660cc injectors, dta management, and your on your way

Smokey
29-11-12, 09:51 PM
At what cost though over and above the standard transplant?!

petet16
29-11-12, 10:08 PM
Decent pistons like Arias or JE probably come in around 1k, not sure on prices for dta s60, s/h injectors come up pretty often, and mapping time.

dta s60 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DTA-S60-PRO-competition-engine-management-ECU-/300371915471?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item45ef8fb2cf

Smokey

So not hugely worth it for the normal people then!

petet16
29-11-12, 10:18 PM
It wasn't worth it for me, I wanted a usable road car, so just went for a bit more out of standard internals.

Smokey
29-11-12, 11:33 PM

petet16
30-11-12, 06:39 AM
243 bhp back in 2006, the engine was in my 420 then but pretty much the same spec, gt28 turbo, fmic, one piece down pipe, Mongoose exhaust modified with a a Jetex 100 cell cat, tubular ex manifold.

ZSONE80

Quick update on zs. Started stripping front end to remove engine and also to repair various body parts!

bhp is only half the story, your forgetting the extra 50-60 lbft of torque this engine will bring, and its this that will make the car so effortlessly fast.
It might have only 230 bhp but that torque will mean it will accelerate as quick in 4th as a modded nasp zs does in 3rd.

petet16
13-12-12, 09:25 PM
Something else worth doing is bracing the turbo mounting flange to the manifold flange, it lessens the risk of cracked welds.
