View Full Version : ZS MK2 Numberplate Bulb holder
Before I give Rim-yer-brother's my hard earned... Has anyone got a couple of MK2 Numberplate Bulb holders?
Rimmer's say this is the correct one: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-XFC000160
But it doesn't look anything like the units I have sat in my bumper... then again the units i have don't fit! They just fall out and I can't do anything with them like changing bulbs etc...
Further, I spoke to my local MG Rover (ex) Dealer... who said it was a good part number (XFC000160) but since the picture is generic and my numberplate is listed as a MK1 (but only for the rear!!) he can't guarantee it will fit... - Do I risk ordering the wrong part???

XFC000160 is shown as the correct item for cars serial number 637209 onwards so if the number part of your vin is 637209 or higher then it will fit
Thats the correct part for mk2's

Ok, so my serial is 639... so that should fit?
how come my lenses look like this?
4159
4160
Actually, looking at that it looks like the loom has been cut as well... hmmm....

It certainly should fit.

I've just looked at your pics, they don't look like the original lights.

No, hence my initial question... also you can see the loom has been cut and replaced with those spade connector crimp things...
So Ideally I need someone who is breaking a MK2 ZS Saloon! so I can get the bulb holders and a bit of wiring loom to repair this... Apparently any MK2 ZR, ZS, 25 or 45 will do!

It looks like it, as long as they haven't cut the mounting about to make the replacement lamps fit

Paint appears to be untouched on the bumper and the hole looks factory cut rather than Stanley knife cut... hmmm since its only a tenner for the two holders I might just buy them and work out a new way to fit to the loom...

Yes... well despite what I said earlier... The holes are way to big for the OE lamps, so stuck what to do now!
One of the "cobbled together units" is totally fried, even replacing the bulb (which took 30 mins to do) didn't get it to light up again!
Now as this is an MOT failure I guess I have five options...
1. Find some replacement fixings of the same size as these duff ones
2. Make up some sort of bracket to hold the OE lights in place (although no idea how to do that, I don't have a 3D printer or manufacturing equipment)
3. Replace the whole bumper - Guessing this would be very expensive!!
4. Use some MK1 fittings and self tappers to fix it to the bumper (fine for short term but will destroy the bumper further and be a pain to change bulbs in future)
5. Hand the car to a body shop and get them to fix the OE units in place
So, unless someone has a MK2 Rear bumper in Black locally going for cheap.... I will have to give this some thought!
Get some LED strips http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2pcs-30cm-White-SMD-3528-waterproof-15led-LED-Car-Motor-Strip-Light-Black-PCB-/281033914187?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Night_Lights_Fairy_ Lights&hash=item416eed374b

I could... but then I would have gaping great holes in the bumper :)

It'll give you lights to get through the MoT, for a temp. solution, for 99p, bargain.

MOT not till Feb :) and have a set of OE ones that arrived yesterday... just need to work out a way of either fitting them or maybe use the LED strips I have (although IIRC they are blue...) - but got till Feb for it!
How much bigger are the holes that the lights fit into than they should be?

The hole is about 1mm wider all round than the widest edge of the oe bulb holders... if that makes sense?
Just bond it then, dont need the units out to change bulbs anyway
