Saw this (www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-MG-ZS-180-RED-LOW-MILES-TAX-TESTED-/190763686557?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2c6a66da9d&_uhb=1) on Ebay while browsing. Looks like a good buy for someone. Mk2, 2004, 36,000 miles, £1500.

WOW ..... missed this one ... there is a relisted Black 180 in Buxton (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-MG-ZS-180-BLACK-/321034352758?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4abf237876) .... but has an ugly towbar, and torn driver seat .... and carpets look "worn" .... doesn't reflect well on the owner

The red one looks lovely, but the saloons look so much better.

The black one looks ok, but the damage to the seat puts me off, it also looks a little rough around the edges in comparison to the red one.

Does anyone think this car is too cheap? I mean 36,000 mile on it.

Dan1971
03-12-12, 02:16 PM
Not too cheap - but cheap enough to deal with any issues that it may have. The seller may well be awar eof others that have sold for less or is simply keen to sell. Lets face it - Jays went from £2200 to £1200 in a week coz he saw a car he wanted.

I'll wager the belts have not been done - so there's £500 straight away, and the tailpipe looks like a pea shooter so there's a few quid to spend straight away if you want to make it more expensive

Yeh probably not.

I'm really tempted, it's just the travelling, it's almost 3 hours there and three hours back.

I could take the train, but even that's 3 hours and £60 for a ticket!!!

Grow a pair :) I'm on a plane to pick mine up on Wednesday!

Going to speak to the wife tonight as I'll need to borrow the money out of our savings until I sell the TF.

Hopefully I'll get £1500 for the TF
I'm selling a VVC head, engine loom, ecu, gasket set, tensioner and timing belt to convert a TF 135 to a VVC 160, that should raise £400
Going to sell a remote control car, hopefully £250
My laptop £200
and finally this ZS I have once it's running right, maybe £500
TOTAL: £2850

If I get a car for £1500, that leaves about £1300 and that can go towards the baby fund.

Mate a ZT and a ZS are miles apart.

ZT is far more refined and comfortable. ZS is just a shed load more raw fun.

You need to decide what you want it for and go try them before you buy one.

Downside, it's about 250 mile away, and has no tax, so I'd need to pay for tax, but the post office isn't open on a saturday, and as a weekend is the only time I can get down, that causes a problem.

Send a message to the guy re the silver one - they'll send you some if you come over as a genuinely interested buyer, not a waster.

A 60 yr old woman won't look after a car like a so called youngen. It might have been driven hard, but show me a single guy on here who doesn't drive their 180s hard. Or their diesels for that matter .... ;) I'd wager there are a few subs and amps in the boots of guys on here too.

Chances are that a youngen will have cleaned it every week and if it wasn't right, they'd have got it sorted.... And if you find a nice saloon or ZT - just move the bloody bench !

Send the guy some questions - clarify his age - why selling - etc etc - and then if you are genuinely interested, I'll take a trip over in mine to have a butchers .... Stamford did it for me when I bought the "red shed" .... so I'll pay it back by doing the same for you.

The red one that's for sale is actually a guy that's selling a handful of cars.

He was very helpful...

I asked if there was any damage to the seats, he said some wear on the drivers said bolster.

No sign of coolant loss.

No sign of clutch wear.

There's no rattling from the engine, manifold is good he says.

A few minor external scratches.

One of the door handles has been replaced with a chrome one, which isn't difficult to sort out.

No other external damage.

The guys also given me his email address so I can request further information.

But dan, if you wouldn't mind going to have a look at it for me, I'd send you some money to cover fuel and a couple of pints.

1. Yes. Been done many times. Most leave the lip on there too.
2. Nope.

But - personally - I prefer the look of the lip spoiler rather than the picnic table evo copy extreme spoiler.... :fishing:

Someone once told me the Evo copied the spoiler from the ZS... how true that is I don't know!

I spoke to the guy this afternoon. He's sorting out some interior pictures for me, but so far it sounds like a good one. Only really used as a weekend car, has a few scuffs.

So fingers crossed I'm off to glasgow on saturday, and he's not far from the train station either.

I have to persuade the wife to give me some money first. She's not overly keen on me buying a car before getting rid of the other two first.

It's going to take our tally of course to four!!

The price of this one is a little more than I wanted to pay, as my budget is only £1500, but we'll have to see what happens.

I'm more hoping I can sell the TF, because if I buy a car and can't pay the money back into the savings she'll chop my tail off :)

EDIT: Put the TF on ebay today, got one watcher already.

TF's seem to be suffering the same as ZS's.

Keep it for the summer, for what you will get for it.

If you entered Ben's, "guess the price," game, you will know what I mean. My one cost about 3 x what some are going for now.

I need to money to pay for the new ZS though. I have until February/March to sell it and put the money back in the savings account.

That red hatch from 7 pages back looks good, I wouldn't worry about the DTM exhaust or the sub.

I'm nearer 50 than 46 and have a sub in my ZS and my maestro and a DTM style pipe on the maestro.

And you can get mats off ebay or from the scrappy, the ones for my MGF were £2.
