Whatever that reservoir is/was behind the windscreen washer bottle, it looks like it's been on fire ....

Otherwise - it could be mine .....

If i went to see that for sale i would walk away.... Thats not been looked after at all, the power steering reservoir looks to full, and the coolent tank looks like its got oil in it. Poor poor show :(

It's the pas reservoir, it's overfilled and leaked down the front, hence the Blackened look, it also looks to be at an odd angle

Give me 5 minutes and itd be looking like new again, be suprised how quickly engines can get dirty in certain conditions, seen 1 year old cars in a worse state

looks like any other engine bay. I don`t think my father know where his bonnet catch is, never mind open it. doesnt say his car is neglected though, he just has no interest in cars.

My main concern was the expansion bottle but I don't think it's HGF.

The expansion bottle looks grubby, and as mentioned the level is down

This is familiar!!!!
If I'm not mistaken the drivers seat bolster is in as poor condition?

Ill admit, mine is dirty but all the fluids are at the right level and the appropriate colour!

So if that bottle was low what would you top it up with?

i wouldn`t be worried about the colour of expansion bottle, see loads like that. i would however check for coolant leka as the level is down, but more importantly looks diluted as if topped regularly with water.

Are you looking at this to buy?

Just dirty tbh
Header tank just needs a rinse clean in something to bring bang up to nicey clean
PAS fluid level is fine - probably just running and up to temp
just needs a clean, can't see anything that would deter me from purchasing the car if you were to sell it

anyway, it's your car, CHECK YOUR ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL THOUGH - tut tut

This ones for sale on ebay isn't it.

The damaged seat and the engine bay are what put me off. It looks so unloved.

I don't get it, if this is a for sale picture and the owner doesn't 'do' mechanical stuff, i.e. lift the bonnet, then why take a picture of it?

On the flipside an engine bay looking like this during this part of the year is not unusual due to the road dirt thrown up. The exterior of mine looks just as bad after only 2 weeks of commuting after it had a good clean.

Bidding upto £830 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-MG-ZS-180-BLACK-/321034352758?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item4abf237876)..... on the plus side belts have been done - anyone asked for evidence?

I'd agree surface dirt in the engine bay is normal, I mean at this time of year who details the engine bay regularly.

I'd be concerned by the gunk in the expansion tank, and the coolant level, I appreciate you can clean the tank out, but it shouldn't have any debris in it, so how did it get there.

It maybe worth contacting the seller and asking about the state of the expansion bottle.

whats the easiest way to clean an engine bay? tempted to cover all the electric in mine and use a hose on it, but im sure that would do it any good. ivew bought 3 types of engine cleaner and a steam cleaner kit and it doesnt do anything..

In the past I've covered over the electricals, sprayed engine cleaner all over it, and then took it to a jet wash and cleaned it with the engine running.

a good all purpose cleaner and jet wash to clean the bay, bit suspect the condiotion of the drivers seat to the mileage, unless he is a real fatty!, my dads wasnt that bad and that had double the mileage of that and some more

A bit of work would have it looking good.

On the other hand, it might be so reliable its only opened up once a year for its annual service!!!!

I've had a 35,000 mile car with bolster worn to a hole.

Crikey. Wasn't that bad though and the passenger side is hammered too. Nothing a set of alcantara wouldn't sort though.

I missed out by 1 bid placed 2 seconds before the end of the auction, second mk2 I've missed out on in a week.
