As the title says, how old do you think you have to be to get away with driving a ZT.

Wife reckons the zt is for old men and the zs for boy racers!!!

ZT260 it's only old men that can afford to run them!

I was looking to swap the zs for a zt or zt-t a month or so ago due to growing family and the only reason we didn't is as I wanted the tourer (space wise) and the mrs prefers the saloon (she likes pretty much any mg with a spoiler) and she wasn't keen on the back of the tourer from inside so we decided to stick with the zs. Am now contemplating another zs but depending what happens it may just mean more things for the current one.
I'm 27 & the mrs is 24 so I don't think on our part that to drive a zt you have to be old. They are a very nice looking car that imo is sporty whilst quite sophisticated too.

Where does this leave me then, as 47?

I was looking at ZT-Ts recently to replace the Discovery but was too small for the dogs.

The ZS stays so I am bucking the trend ;)

Think youve answered your own question there Mick! Give it a few years and the back will be wanting a ZT :p

Meh, I'm 33 and would have either. Who cares, if you love a car, get it!

Mrs TC says the ZT is a grandad's car and at 48 I'm too young but my 22yr old solved that last month giving birth to my first grandchild - then Mrs TC is over 40 and drives a ZR with a loud exhaust.
And we share a MGF.

Im 24 pushing 45....................................Will keep the ZS, the ZT just too big, and doesnt like corners. Plus doesnt suit the exteme spoiler and doesnt suit YELLOW.

One of my friends always bangs on that now I have 2 children I should get the more family practical as in comfortable option of the zt. As I said I did look into it but at heart I am still like I was when I was 17 and passed my test and wanted something fast and loud and something that made me smile. The zs does it perfectly and the more its modded the better it gets. I can't honestly see me growing up and getting that sort of a car no matter how much I tell myself I should.
I second smokeys point though, no matter what anyone else thinks if you like the car and want it, have it :)

what do you mean it dont like corners mine handles really well, the 180 is to light and understeers quite badly the 120 handles better than a 180 and i have owned and track dayed both. And sorry but the yellow looks like someone threw up on them.

ZTs do go quite well around corners, not so well as a ZS it has to be said but then the ZS is pretty great in the bends. A 260 though is another kettle of fish, very very good handling car, hard pressed to pick between the ZS and the 260.

My wife bought her 260 when she was 31. Hard to quantify a stiffly sprung, good handling sports saloon as a grandad car...

I've talked with the wife a little more, she says that if she was to choose for me, she'd choose the ZT.

1) Doesn't look as boy racery
2) More comfortable

I'm not sure, I prefer the look of the ZS Mk2 Saloon, just absolutely lovely. On the other hand, I agree the ZT looks more grown up and the rid will likely be a little less on the harsh side, a lot of people say the build is better too.

Having had a look, I think if I were to get a ZT, I'd probably get the 1.8t engine. Better fuel economy, and the engine will be much easier to work on. Plus, I suspect with an air filter, exhaust and a remap the the bhp could be increased enough to drop the 0-60 time to below 8 seconds?

I drove a ZTT at 24, nice car, no strange looks, people commented how nice it was

Im 23 and had a MK2 ZT 190 with every factory option possible (Apart from standard RIO Red Paint). It had a full cat-back Powerflow exhaust system which complimented the V6 nicely. I did get looks from everyone when I drove it and must say its a world apart from my mk1 ZS 180. All MG's have a certain feel when you drive them and this was no different. With it having traction control I felt I could put it round corners like the ZS and it coped very well. The build quality was unreal (in a good way!). In the time I owned it the only issues I had was the bonnet release stopped working but me and dad fixed it and replaced the faulty part. One of the best things I like about it was the Harman Kardon speakers/xenon headlights Here are some pictures:

From 17-20 i had 4 ZS's.

I have drove 3 ZT's though. 180 auto, 190 ZT-T and a 2.0 cdti auto. Whole world apart from the zs. Love the toys they come with!

It would be so easy to do the old ZR=25, ZS=45 & ZT=75 joke at this point, but seriously there's nothing wrong with driving a nice car that might be considered a "mature" choice.
That ZT in the pics above is a really good example - what a handsome and well equipped car!
It can be a right shame to see old giffers getting out of Ferraris and Aston Martins, because only they can afford to run and insure them after a lifetime of saving.
Having said that, if you see someone really young driving similar, it can make you wonder if they're:
a) a footballer,
b) just out in "Daddy's car",
c) selling something naughty!

At least nobody's going to accuse you of being a drug dealer if you have a ZT (unless you black out all the windows, slam it and put 20" chrome alloys on it)! ;)

That red ZT is lovely.

I've had a few - as everyone knows - and I think the ZS for me is me holding onto something that is going to make me feel younger and harking back to the days of being without kids and responsibility driving something that makes a decent noise and I can feel pressed back into my seat when I put my foot down.

It is also a toy. If I had to just have one car - I'm not sure if I'd settle for a ZS as I am getting older and to be 100% honest - for the amount of time that I do put my foot down with a grin on my face, compared to the amount of time I sit in traffic - I'd likely go auto BMW .... so a ZT180 saloon is as close as I'd get if I stayed with MG.

I think your all right its just personal taste and if your in a position to go for the car you want at any age!

Cheers for the compliments on the ZT! Reason I had it for 3 months was because it took 3 months to sell (May 12 - Aug 12) started at £3650 and slowly reduced it and in the end sold it to a freind for £3000 (he is my age but has a 3 year old boy so they both luv driving it!) I had 0 interest and it was advertisied on Autotrader. Shows how little people like these cars and it was not priced wrong in comparrison to others and it was the best example available with full local MGR dealer history and only 42k.

Well I might be going to be the oldest newcomer to ZS's then at 56 years young!

My 18 year old thinks that anyone looks like a k*** in a sports car.

I was thinking about this the other day and I decided that you can buy something to present an image to someone or a demographic you want to impress then that's one reason.

Personally I love driving, driving anything to be honest.

If the ZS fits my needs better than anything else then who cares what anyone else thinks.

I had someone say my Red Ford Focus was a boy racer car!
