for £211 I got ...

side skirts

just on the hunt for the last few bits now :) these are

rear bumper idealy with the arch bits on the bumper
bootlid
rear arch bits
and door trim bits
front bumper support bar
mk2 headlight plugs with some loom on

once these have been sourced then wont be long till I will get bits painted then fitted :)

I did see on here that on the mk1 plugs theres a small piece of plastic you can remove to use them on the mk2 lights.

oh and headlights, you just have to remove a small piece of plastic in the connector and they fit (i know as ive just done a mk2 conversion)

If you're determined to keep your mk1, wouldn't you be better off actually buying a mk 2, breaking it and keeping what you need .....

Collected my bits yesterday, very happy with the bits. Got a bit of work to do on the bumper but just a couple hours work. Just on the hunt for rear bumper, bootlid and rear door arch trim bits :) got the rear quarter arch trims sanded down and primed this morning

Would it not be cheaper just to buy a MK2?

Depends how much you pay for the parts.... :)

Having done both in my case the MK1 converted would have been cheaper. And actually was a more sturdy well built car (MK1 build quality with mk2 looks)

See what your saying but you can pick up a decent (looking cars on the web that is) one for £1500. Treat tank, arch liners etc swap the nice bits from the original Mk1 over and can all be done at home no specialist spraying. Sell Mk1 for worst case £500? I personally think that must a more cost effective and hassle free option.

Chances are the MK2 won't have the cam belts done... but the MK1 probably would have...

I don't know, but sometimes its better the devil you know, as I have found out a few times...

I can see what you are saying, but I can also see the other side of the argument. End of the day each to their own. - I know Paul loves that particular car and the sense of achievement he will have after building it into a MK2 himself (on the outside at least) is worth more to him than any extra money spent to get it to that state :)

I guess some people get more attached to a particular car than others :D

Very true. I know from my point of view i did my conversion because i like the look of the mk2 but it would be difficult to find a mk2 TD with the same specs that i have on my mk1. I have already done alot of work on my mk1 so i know the condition she is in and obviously now have some history with the car, plus the mk1 is better built than the mk2 so i have the best of both worlds.

Mk1s would be looking for a 2nd belt service about now, mines on the rodeo  but got a spare engine. Guess its 6 and 2 3s on how you feel about the car. Personally I'd rather fettle a Mk2 than completely overhaul a mk1.

Either way Im sure it will be to the OPs taste and of course a lot fun along the way:).

I now have all the bits at home for this, bootlid rear bumper and door trims were delivered yesterday. Gonna get a load of photo's after work and start a thread in members cars/projects section to keep a diary of all my progress :) and as for belts change mine were done just about 1k ago :)

I would admit I would do the same to my mk1 and convert to mk2, better the devil you know I say. After 8 years service I think I know it very well and considering what I paid for it back then spending a bit more wouldn't make any difference.
