Why do reg plates need to be so expensive!

The ones i really want run into silly money, cheapest I can find that I like is

I was gonna go for CA11 UMS
But it went to auction with a 1k reserve!
And I couldn't put it on anyway so would have to wait for a new car.
But still would have been classnif I'd had the money spare!

Got cut up heading to the M5 in my company golf (yeah I'd cut me up too :smart:) by a trophy blue zs 180 mk1 plate XXXX ZSR with a tasty stainless back box. Anyone owning up to this one? HAHA!
