Hi every one

Ive owned this car about a month now, Ive only just got the registration documents through, Ive sent them off again now as I'm putting my private reg on the car that was kindly bought for me for my 21st, now 28!

I wanted to do a project thread on the car as I will be changing little things here and there, Ive already started so thought Id start documenting them.

So the car is a 1.8 120 saloon in Trophy Blue, 81,000 miles, full service history, head gasket replaced with uprated one, cambelt and water pump also replaced, along with the usual brake pads etc before I bought it.

I paid £1000 for the car. bought it from a nice chap in York who was an MG/Rover mechanic for 11 years hence why it has been so well maintained and looks the way it does.

These are the 3 pictures from the Ebay advert, not much to go on, no interior or engine bay pics, but after an hour long conversation with the guy over the phone, I was convinced it was a mint car, and it is!

The Ebay pics:

The car was on White wheels but the owner did say the car will be sold with Silver wheels as he wanted to keep the White's...fair enough, I prefer the Silver.

A week later he kindly delivered the car to my door for me, and I was straight on with the mods, first thing was LED number plate bulbs:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/9531b1e6-13a3-4e46-a5a7-65d16a766dfc_zpse8fe9a1a.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/9531b1e6-13a3-4e46-a5a7-65d16a766dfc_zpse8fe9a1a.jpg.html)

New front and rear badges:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-27_zps9089552f.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-27_zps9089552f.jpg.html)

I didn't like the Orange in the front indicators, so searched for some clear ones from a Rover and Ebay came good as usual:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-62_zps320703b4.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-62_zps320703b4.jpg.html)

Was a pain to fit to be honest but glad Ive done it because I think its changed the front end for the better.

The bulbs were Yellow and made the car look older so Ive replaced them, the new ones give off a White with Bluish tint and really updates them

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-28_zps79372c64.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-28_zps79372c64.jpg.html)

I've got LED sidelight bulbs also but haven't fitted them yet

The next thing I tackled was the brake calipers and hubs, I like things to look tidy behind the wheels, the entire underneath of the car will be done in the same way, striped back and painted, no process pics, just after, has really smartened the car up.

All four arches have also been repainted, it look new under there

That's about it for now, have just given the car a small detail, week after next the paint will be getting corrected and next Tuesday a new back box is being fitted, also need to get the wheels refurbished as they have kerb marks etc.

Here is the car as it stands on my drive today; EXTERIOR

Talk about attention to detail - you've even gone for lawn stripes on the carpet mats but that filler cap looks a bit grubby ;)

Haha, the fuel filler cap has weird stains on it, shall be replaced! :-)

Very clean indeed. Just keep an eye on the coolant looks a little high to me and very cloudy.

I have a knocking noise coming from the N/S/R and I'm going through a process of elimination, starting with replacing the anti roll bar drop links and bushes

The difference:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-66_zps43098174.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-66_zps43098174.jpg.html)

The two new ones:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-68_zps3b3db64b.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-68_zps3b3db64b.jpg.html)

I've taken the car for a quick drive, there is definitely a difference I'm sure, however there is still a knocking noise, I'm going to replace the larger bushes on the anti roll bar next.

While the car was jacked up I took some quick pictures of one of the arches to give you an idea of cleanliness :-)

So today I decided to do a bit more tidying up under the arches.

I removed the inner arch, to clean it properly:

This is why I like to do it:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-76_zps078c909c.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-76_zps078c909c.jpg.html)

The arch lining itself needed a good clean:

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/hh593/Mcapp1/2004-12-31230000-74_zps60845c06.jpg (http://s1253.photobucket.com/user/Mcapp1/media/2004-12-31230000-74_zps60845c06.jpg.html)

I gave it a thorough clean then removed all the tar spots:

Tar dissolving:

After drying I dressed them leaving them like new:

The plastic screws that held the lining in place were cleaned ready to be re fitted, and the metal screws were cleaned sanded and painted Silver

The arch before:

Didn't look too great under there, so after prepping I repainted, allowed it all to dry and refitted the arch lining.

I'm annoyed because I ran out of paint but I will get some more tomorrow and finish the job off, for now here is what it looks like:

By no means finished, there still plenty more to be painted etc but a bit at a time :-)

looking good, bit of paint makes the world of difference, looks good with the inner arches cleaned up. I would do that if I had the time and a 2nd car!

If you lived closer to me I would be more than happy to do it for you, theres not really much to it, the biggest pain is getting the arches out :-)

Ok so my back box was seriously rotten and blowing like hell so was time to pay my local Power flow dealer a visit and get a new one bolted on.

This is the reason for a replacement....

And the old tip....

That looked fine but was too short and was under the metal trim, and off centre.

Any way, a couple of hours and was all done, sound so much nicer

Hi all,

Well today I wanted to get the exterior up to scratch, as good as it came up with a hand polish, I knew it needed claying as certain areas were a little rough to touch, the worse being the flat panels, bonnet roof and tail gate.

So the process:

- Decontaminate alloys (Iron X)
- Thorough wash of exterior, every nook and cranny was cleaned
-Decontaminate paintwork (iron X and clay bar)
- Machine polish with a DA polisher, no need for rotary as the paintwork wasn't bad enough to justify it.
- Re apply sealant to re protect
- All other bits and bobs clean such as glass, plastics etc and dressed

Just a few pics from today, I didn't capture every part of the detail as I needed to crack on but here are a few any way, then the final pics :-)

The Iron X dissolving brake dust etc

Excellent product! I didn't think the wheels could get much cleaner, then this stuff does its thing and they look even better, well chuffed!

Rinsed off

After cleaning the door shuts, fuel cap, under bonnet etc the car got a thorough clean,

The door trims were driving me mad because they were stained and didn't look like I knew they could, so out came the G101 and a tooth brush and pulled all the dirt out, they were filthy, I highly recommend doing this as the difference is amazing after.

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/053_zpse0d8f7b7.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/053_zpse0d8f7b7.jpg.html)

And after applying dressing and buffing, excuse the smear :-)

And rinsed

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/042_zps820cc73a.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/042_zps820cc73a.jpg.html)

Iron X was applied to the entire car and allowed to sit for 5 minutes, you can just about see it working in the next pictures

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/044_zps58b88fee.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/044_zps58b88fee.jpg.html)

Another good wash and rinse and I was onto claying, Removed a good amount from the paint and was amazed at the difference made to the paint already just after doing this

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/046_zpsc94e6ef7.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/046_zpsc94e6ef7.jpg.html)

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/047_zps5b5c84d4.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/047_zps5b5c84d4.jpg.html)

The paint now being silky smooth I washed the car again, dried and taped up delicate areas

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/051_zps5e235149.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/051_zps5e235149.jpg.html)

I then machined every panel to leave a crisp sharp and very smooth finish, I used a Yellow 3M pad and polish used was a Menzerna fine polish, I didn't need a cutting compound of any kind as the car doesn't require that, just enough cut to give the results that the paint has now.

I gave the paint and alloys an IPA wipe down to remove polishing oils and applied Jetseal 109 as my LSP I love this stuff, easy on, easy off, lasts for donkeys and leaves a real nice finish

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/056_zpsc9a66264.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/056_zpsc9a66264.jpg.html)

Whilst that was curing I attended to everything else:

Treated the doors shuts

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/057_zpsf6171cb2.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/057_zpsf6171cb2.jpg.html)

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/058_zpsbe807f98.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/058_zpsbe807f98.jpg.html)

Polished the exhaust

http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/a515/Michael_Capp/054_zps0b2566a6.jpg (http://s1281.photobucket.com/user/Michael_Capp/media/054_zps0b2566a6.jpg.html)

Cleaned the glass, dressed the arches and tyres, and dressed all plastics, and finally removed the sealant from the paint and alloys

and here are the final results, I'm over the moon, and fallen in love with the car even more awwwwww

The car is still as mint as ever but Ive removed my private plates as the car will be up for sale soon, I'm back self employed and need an estate vehicle so this has to go....

Any who the car was treated to some pampering again this afternoon so here are some piccies
