Well my heated screen arrived from Ricky Evans Motorsport today, it should be getting fitted tomorrow morning.

Fingers crossed the rain will give it a break, and then it'll be on with project "wiring it up".

No pics to post, we all know what a windscreen looks like lol

Pics or it didn't happen!

I'm gutted I didn't have my mk2 project when the thread went up I'd have liked to combine a heated mirror/front screen heater button.
You linking it to the rear screen or mirrors or individually?

You want a pic of a windscreen lol.

I'm undecided about which way to go with wiring, I've got the Summer to think about it.

you'll have the 'first ever' zs/400/45/civic with a heated front screen in that case, one for the record books.

Could do with pictures of the tails.

petet16
14-05-13, 05:34 PM
The tails are about 15" long, 2 at each lower corner, and fitted to the edge of the glass, and are left outside when the screen is fitted.

I've had another look at the wiring diagram for the hrw on a mk2 and decided that the easiest way to wire it is by splicing into the feed that operates the relay for the rear screen to operate a fused relay for the front screen, and take a power feed from the ignition switch for the heating elements, it'll save having another switch, and will mean the front screen is timed like the rear one.

I think that's what I will do but have been looking at the door lock switch wondering where that could be relocated to............have 2 heated screen switches but the front only working when the rear is as the front normally clears quicker than the rear.

It would be really useful to have a how to as I was driving around north London wondering how hard it can really be.

I've been thinking for a while about the options for wiring it, using a separate switch, or splicing into existing wiring, and decided to splice into existing wiring as the easiest option, I'll do a load of pics and a write up when I do the job.

Finished, just need a new top filler section, the old one split which is par for the course.

Jason who ran the group buy can supply the top filler for about £20, don't buy from xpart they're £100:blink: a pop, for a rubber trim !!!!

So they only do them for ZRs and that was a one off GB ?

Shame... thats not a bad price for the ZR ones either !

Is the ZR windscreen the same size as the ZS windscreen as I would like to do this modification on my Zed at some point in the future. Brilliant modification.

petet16
16-05-13, 12:59 PM
No. the zr screen is different, that was why we ended up with a group buy for the zs as they were a custom batch.

If there was enough interest I'm sure a second group buy might go ahead.

If the second order went ahead I'd be in for it but I can't post on xpf.

That's the right thread, the top filler strip is a bargain at £20, xpart want £100 for that rubber moulding, I would also invest £20 in a fitting kit from ebay or xpart for the l/h & r/h trim strips, they are hard to get off without breaking the clips.

this is actually quite a good performance mod when you think about it.

What could you spend 300quid on, that will uprate your MG?

A stainless exhaust - worth a few bhp and perhaps a tenth

A daft stereo and bass box - probably slow you down with the extra weight

A remap - 10bhp, 0.5seconds quicker

or,

a heated screen.

Now, on a cold, icy, frosted or snowy day, you will be 5-10 minutes ahead of everyone else as they will still be scraping the ice & snow of their screens.

I only ever think of how nice the old works mondeo (with heated front screen) was on days like these, but that says a lot, because on any other day I would sooner be driving anything other than a mondeo.

Roll on the snow...

Well I tried to register interest on the thread and it said my post had gone to moderation (like all my previous posts there which were never done and why I gave up on the site)
So if someone already a member could express my interest that would be great.

done, I think the reason your posts have to go to moderation is because you only have 3 posts, although the place is pretty dead these days.

He just messaged me on xpf, he's got your pm, he will reply with the details for the deposit.

I haven't progressed the wiring beyond ordering the bits I need to do the job, I'm busy getting our 180 ready for it's mot later this week, but if the weather stays dry I'll make a start on wiring
