Hi folks, just thought I'd put up abit of a rebuilt thread up following my accident back in February.

Its a known fact throughout most of the MG-R community I had a "bump", so its nothing I could hide.

I'd like to thank everyone who's given support throughout this, mainly over Facebook, but also within this forum. It really does mean a lot!

So as you know, I bought the car back in September, looking all nice and shiny...

On my way to work on Monday 25th February I hit a BMW 525d estate. Barely any damage to the BMW. Cracked and dislodged rear bumper, and a dented boot lid. The ZS took the brunt of it all.

Started looking into the damage. Mostly panel damage, bent front slam panel, radiator and air con condenser, fans, and a snapped engine mounting.

Ironically, the OWW on the numberplate survived haha

After being told by my insurance company that it'd be a write off if I claimed, and being insulted with an offer of £1200 for the car, I decided fixing it myself and not claiming was my best option.

Strip down began at work...

I then had to get the car moved to my house, due to lack of space at work, and the rebuild really made some progress.

Old slam panel sections removed

Trail fit of a few panels, just to make it look more like a car.

Went for the MOT and passed with no advisories, and drove from there, straight to the body shop, for a full respray

All sprayed up and being put back together

And then it was time to hit the shows!
En route to Modified Nationals

The finish they got on the paint is fantastic!

I couldn't let a car like this just be written off, and hope you like the final result. Just need to be more careful in future!

Hopefully Gary (previous owner) will see this thread and be pleased at how its been repaired, and all his efforts weren't wasted.

Comments, criticisms etc all welcome :)

Thanks
Nath

What a car I thought that it would be a very long time before I seen it fixed ( knowing the price of new mg parts) but well done its a amazing car and its a credit to yourself and the paint work is stunning.

would u ever sell the mg ?

Cruizer
21-07-13, 04:30 PM
Thanks for all the compliments :)

I'm afraid I'd never sell it, and even if I did, I'd guess its now about worthless as a complete car? Given that everyone in the MG scene knows about my accident?

Not after documenting how much time and effort you've put into getting it fixed mate .... far from it.

I find crash damage more frustrating if you don't know about it.

If your car was a standard 180 then maybe. Its not so people would still queue for it

I don't think people will question the rebuild quality as it has been done to an excellent standard and the car looks immaculate. It's also a rare beastie with the supercharger. The only thing people may query is the reason for the accident and whether you have been ragging the car since you've had it.

Other than that, should find a buyer quickly at a reasonable price...not that you're selling anyways!

The thing with ragging it is that realistically, what's the point in having it tuned up of you're not going to? I know the previous owners drove it to its limits, that didn't put me off. And it's always obvious this car will always been driven like that.

I'm rather pleased at these responses though, it's rather reassuring :)

Be a very very long time before even so much as consider getting rid though :)

Haha I used to warm mine up and then spend 1/4 of a tank ragging seven bells out of it. As Nathan says what's the point of having it if u don't ever use it??
Once u have tasted a 250+ hp kv6 spinning upto the redline then u can't help it lol.
