There was a contract with Kia, where Kia made their own version of the KV6 - But it suffered horrifically with Head Gasket failures.

Obviously Korean, but probably where you heard the rumour - The KV6 was as far as I know all rover.

EDIT: Also, no coolant!

The original kv6 was rover, came in the rover 800 etc, but i believe the kv6 we know today was re designed by bmw due to bad reliability of the engine, headgasket :(

It did first appear in the 800 series, but was a shocker for hgf, so was heavily revised for later models, the only vaguely Honda part is the vis system, the Honda C27 used a similar system.

The Rover KV6 was ALL Rover as fitted to the 800 series, they also used a Honda V6 also used in the Rover 800 series and it was a 2.6. but the later units fitted to the Z range was a collaboration of Rover and BMW,

his response to my insistence it was a Rover engine.

"In response to your comment, the K series engine was in the ZS120 and NOT the 180 which i assure you WAS the Honda engined model and therefore did not suffer with the head gasket problem.I hope this clarifies the matter."

Yep, he just sent me this

Sorry for the confusion, you are in fact correct it is a KV6 engine but it has aimost nothing in common with the K series which was a four cylinder, this meant that it did not suffer the Head gasket problems,I will update the listing imediately.Thank you.

This is like a guy I met in Norwich.
He told me his (51plate ZS diesel) had a BMW Diesel engine in it.
I asked him when he had it put in.
He took great pride in telling me that all of them got the BMW engines from the factory and that meant it wouldn't blow it's head gasket.

I couldn't bring myself to correct the poor guy.

and it reads

- Dear talkingcars,

Hi,you are correct, i made a mistake in the listing. It is a KV6 engine but this has very little in common with the K series that was a four cylinder.I will update the listing asap,Thank you.

Dear courierboss1,

Hi

Nice car but a bit confused, both my MGZS 180's have MG Rover V6 engines, these are definatly not honda engines, they are K series V6 which are normally known as the KV6, same as the 4 cylinder engine in the 120, 110 and 105 is the K series 4 or K4.

If your's is a honda I am very impressed as who ever fitted it managed to get it to run backwards, the Honda engines are always on the otherside of the engine bay.

Good luck with the sale.

James
