well unfortunatly today i traded in my ZS 180  for a diesel megane wasnt something i wanted to do but with cost mounting up and doing 18,000 miles in 8 months it wasnt economical to keep it any more so had to bite the bullet

Just wanted to say thanks for all the help over the years you guys are an ace bunch

Shame but totally understand, I rack up around 18k a year so know how much this hits the pocket hence why I have the Vectra for work and the ZS for fun. Stay around though.

Bit harsh perhaps .... They aren't made any more so they'll faze out for sure.

A v6 petrol's expensive to run whether it's a ZS, Mondeo or anything else for that matter where money's tight - so fair play for running it for so long. Looked at a Megane diesel myself but then thought - I'll spend £3K on a car to save £80 a month. That means I need to run a slow noisy diesel for 3 yrs ish to break even - decided against it.

Stick around and you'll buy another one soon enough... ;)

Out of interest though - what sort of money did you get trading in the ZS ?

The car I bought was 4k 2008 with 41k miles with all the gadgets and I got 1k trade in for the zs which I thought was a fair offer my zs had done 112k miles on an 02 plate

Im going to look at a 80s v8 corvette as my weekend toy next weekend

Nope not harsh at all. Less money being spent to maintain them, prices dropping like stones, more and more being scrapped when any type of repair comes up, spares are not making as much money, tight fisted owners won`t spend money and expect you to do things for nothing.

I love MG, but be realistic, they are dying.

I`m an MG specialist garage, and I`ll tell you how many MG`s I`ve worked on since the start of July, 2 and one of them was my own. How many in June? 3, again one of them my own. The harsh reality is, the majority of MG`s are sub £1000 cars. Why does anyone want to spend half their value repairing or maintaining them? A head gasket failure or timing belt service and they get shot. Christ discs and pads all round on a 180 and they put it up for sale!!

An 02 plate 180 is a token gesture trade in. It`ll go to auction and struggle to make £500.

Harsh words. Spoken like a unbeliever.....I love my MG. It may be worth £500 book guide, buts its priceless to me. I just forked out £200 for discs and pads allround. £200 for the wheels to be refurbed. £10 per valet. All you have to do is see how many turned up to the MGSD meet at Duxford....:judge:

I have to agree i'm afraid, thats not to say there isnt the enthusiast base still, although perhaps smaller than it was, but stuff doesnt shift like it did, had a full brm interior sitting for about 3 months at 100 and no one has even been to see it, we are seeing far less MGs at work and rovers also.

Still have to disagree.................Will always be a love base. This forum for one.

I work in a Ford garage, havent seen a Sierra Cosworth or Escort Cosworth in our garage in over 10 years, does that mean they are scrap?????? I just think this is the wrong place to slander MG's.........................................

I'm not saying they are scrap, but you cant say there is anywhere near the same fan base as there was a few years back. Sad but true. Not saying they are bad, we still own them

it just doesn't have the following as Ritchy says, if it was a ford rs, or vauxhall, or even jap it may have been different..

the rover tag has stuck with plenty of people and the cars suffer because of it.. not that they are all bad, maybe if MG/rover brought out the Zed range a lot earlier it might have saved them and could have been a different story.

Not even a case of that callum, just the last couple of years its been getting quieter, a lot of that is to do with the cost of cars, as goldie says someone who goes out and spends 1000 on a car isnt as lilely to go and spend 1000 on modifying and repairing, ZR scene is much the same, and that was really busy when i bought my zs

i have to disagree wi this, yes ive had 3 zs,my last zs was running fine, but was emulsifying was quoted 1k plus to sort it hgf maybe, plus my zr that that alledgedly had hgf, quote for nearly 700,to repair it may have been more, but bit the bullet a didnt have the cash,so got marcuses engine fitted for 750,getting other bits done something always goes wrong,so theres always more money involved, depends who you go to for repairs if im honest, goldie has been a good guy, other guys would take the ****,and yes ritchy it is getting quiet eh

At no point have i slandered MG. It's the owners' mentality thats killing them. What im saying is they've dropped in value, maintenance costs are on the rise due to age and owners aren't fixing them. They are being scrapped.

The enthusiast cars are different from joe public's cars. By signing up to here or even reading this, you show an interest and set yourself apart from the rest of the flock.

Cosworths are solely an enthusiasts car, due to age, rarity and its pedigree. Completely different specimen and cant be compared, at least at the moment.

Well said that man! Loved mine too, but a rare opportunity arose and I am now where I envisaged I wanted to be. Worked out a got a 2003 Merc C220 diesel auto, with genuine 40k on her, full beige leather for my zed & £2,350.

Within minutes she is pumping out ice cold air into the cabin and 40 to 50 mpg. Happy days.
