My take on the Clio diffuser idea.

Looks to be nicely flushed to the bumper there!
Going for the duplex with it?

Not too sure on the left side bit being behind though :/

petet16
28-07-13, 05:12 PM
Yes, going for the duplex, the plan is to trim away a lot of the front part of the diffuser to make it easier to attach to the bottom of the spare wheel well.

Is it cracked in the corner Pete, not sure by the pic. Looks awesome work though, so many going for this now I'll have to jump on that bandwagon soon!

petet16
28-07-13, 06:43 PM
No, it's just the angle of the picture I think, I'll take some better ones when I've finished blending it in.

POMPSKI

Was it the mould a poor fit to begin with pete?

Or is this an actual clio diffuser?

Smokey
28-07-13, 07:40 PM
It's gonna look good! A lot of work though?

petet16
28-07-13, 07:44 PM
It's an actual Clio diffuser.

Smokey
28-07-13, 07:46 PM
Is it a pretty much straight fit but you just want it blended in or is there a bit of work to get it to look stock? Which model of clio diffuser is it (year/model)

petet16
28-07-13, 07:53 PM
It's a Clio 197 from around 2006.

It is a straghtforward'ish fit, size wise it is spot on, but there is a difference in profile between the ends of the diffuser and the zs bumper, that's why I decided to fit it behind the bumper moulding, I think it will be easier to hide the profile difference that way.

Smokey

Ah I see. Seems like a good bit of effort that will be worth while

Pics are a bit small Pete ;)

My only concern is, will the exhaust rattle off the plastic or is the apeture big enough?

petet16
30-07-13, 08:59 AM
The exhaust is going to need some thought, some rough measurements point to it needing some re-jigging, but when I get the bumper and diffuser trial fitted I'll have more of a clue how it's going to fit, I've already decided to trim some of the diffuser away to make it fit the spare wheel well more easily, it won't make any visual difference unless someone gets on their hands and knees under the back of the car

petet16
20-08-13, 06:36 PM
No new pics, sorry !.

But I've finished painting the new bumper, and removed the old one, and the damaged crush cans, i knew the car had a small love tap on the rear end some time in its life, and the old bumper had a gash repair and repaint, it is in fact cracked from top to bottom on the r/h side, all held together with filler on the outside :slap:.

I've also contacted Pro Speed exhausts in Cardiff for a ball park figure for a dual outlet system to suit the diffuser, I was going to get a Blue Flame like the one on our 180, but they are £600 these days .

petet16
26-08-13, 04:17 PM
Pro Speed reckon £270 incl vat and fitting for a suitable dual outlet system, so I think when I put the rear suspension, bumper and diffuser back on, + mot, a trip to Cardiff will be in order.

That's a good price .... :hmm:

I like the sound of mine, but have always fancied a dual exit ....

petet16
26-08-13, 05:46 PM
It is a good price, I am going to confirm it when I phone them, but as it was the owner of Pro Speed that answered my email I assume he knows his stuff, we shall see in due course :smile1:

I'd need to check again, but longlife quoted me about £400 for a dual exit cat back stainless. For £270 - it'd be worth a run to Cardiff for a day out !

petet16
26-08-13, 06:42 PM
My quote is only for the rear section, I think it would have been more if I'd wanted the middle section

Fitted, next is to get it mot'd, then a trip to Pro Speed for a dual outlet exhaust.

Nice number plate!
You going for a flush looking exhaust to match the curve of the splitter?

Looks so massively long that one you have now!
Was it flush on the old bumper?

Looks like its meant to be there!

petet16
13-09-13, 10:45 AM
Thanks.

The exhaust is a Mongoose that was adapted from my old 420, it stuck out too far on the 420, and also with the original zs bumper.

A curved end cut to the pipe following the shape of the diffuser might look quite sweet, I had thought of either a slash cut with the end flush with the diffuser, or a straight cut also finishing flush, these are the sort of options that I'll need to discuss with Pro Speed.

Skillen
13-09-13, 11:09 AM
Curved or slash close to the original I reckon

The loss of airflow/down force with a straight cut sticking out from the bottom would be unfathomable! ;)

petet16
13-09-13, 12:07 PM
Downforce lol.

If there is any downforce generated some of it will be acting through the rear bumper, a part well known for its structural rigidity

redzed
13-09-13, 12:16 PM
looks good but you need to paint it black! it shouyld have an effect on downforce by allowing air to travel under it better than the scoop that is the mgs normal bumber

Skillen
13-09-13, 12:17 PM
Downforce lol.

Bumper sag at high speeds then! Lower CoG!
All gains! No drawbacks!

I always think that the bumper shape lends itself more to a parachute!

petet16
13-09-13, 12:29 PM
I agree with you about the standard bumper acting like a parachute, it needs a closing panel on the bottom to stop it from trapping so much air.

The colour of the diffuser does need seeing to, I have some Black trim wax which should darken it quite a bit, and is less work than painting it.

Maxfly
13-09-13, 12:32 PM
That looks excellent, I would go with inward rolled and slash cut to same contour as the diffuser myself.:) very good price you been quoted too I reckon

I've got the brakes, heated screen and rehang the rear bumper left to do! And no dry days to do it!

petet16

Heated screen was done in the spring, so that's ticked off the list.

Well, a good end to the mods this year if you're stopping now I think.
(Once its blackened up and exhaust fitted)
Gonna sound awesome when fitted.

petet16
13-09-13, 02:21 PM
Over all it has been a good year for mods and upgrades, I'd built up a good collection of parts, a lot of the jobs were carried over from last year because of work commitments and poor weather.

I'm slightly tempted to convert to climate control as all the loom appears to be in place, the only thing putting me off is sourcing all the other bits needed, and if the condenser will fit around the intercooler.

So, after an immense break in progress, today was the day that I fitted the dual outlet system, the good news is that the 180 dual pipe system lines up really nicely with the holes in the Clio diffuser, I would have got the test install finished but for a pipe measuring glitch, and not having any spare pipe of the correct diameter.

Something else I learned is not to waste your money on those ebay pipe expanders, as much use as a chocolate teapot, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I need to get some extensions made for the tail pipes as the currently finish short of where they need to be, pictures will follow once I'm done, I might even get round to the Clio diffuser how to.

How are the marshmallow bumper clips holding up against the "downforce"?

petet16
