Since taking ownership of the Merc fitted a K&N Panel Filter and the other day I won a Pro-bitz tuning box on the bay of E for £38.

Fitted it yesterday and wow what a difference. Takes it from 143 bhp to 170bhp and torque has risen from 315Nm to 370Nm.

A lot nicer to drive with some nice low down torque.

Only 24 horses to go for my 194 bhp of the old Zed.

I know, I know, I can hear those responses now!

Good stuff, I was a bit naughty with an Audi a4 3.0tdi yesterday, those things are quick. Didn't find out which engine till I lifted and he carried on up the motorway, either he was leaving me plenty of room or we were evenly matched as he wasn't gaining but wasnt dropping away either.

I drove a E320 at work, effortless motoring, but you could be sitting in a lounge chair at home!!!

Bet it feels better with the extra torque and BHP.

Just the V8 roar and a few more ponies!!!!

Does Pete. Pulls better at lower speeds. Armchair is right we can't stop nodding off man.

Started to strip the scooby motor today. Found HGF Left bank rear pot so please we finally found a cause. The lad spent loads on it and it came back all in boxes. But with a new mot!

That means the GTE is getting the miles put on?????

Is the HGF do-able? Looks mega scary whenever I've seen under a Scooby bonnet.

Once the lump is out not too bad. Belts are easy too. We found a local guy who is going to fit a new set of shells, piston rings, build engine back up and sling her in for us at very reasonable rates. The lad, poor sod spent £1,700 on garage bills for mot and investigative work. Even passed a block gas test mind? Well in that price are all the new head gaskets and seals etc which are not cheap. We also had new belt kit fitted and water pump and thermostat. We bought a donor closed deck motor too which turned out to have scoring in one of the bores so that cost us dearly. I'm just so pleased that the old man still got it, and found the root cause. I'll put pics up later.

No the Gte is little used tbh. Seems that each time I use it I have to put petrol in it Mmmmmmm! Sound familiar.

The five speed Scooby box is the weak link. The 6 speed is another matter and will handle anything.
You can buy a mint mk2 Zs180 and have the belts done for the price of a good used 6 speed with dccd.

Some bits are dear, some less so but they are cheap to tune. Take a standard wrx decat + exhaust, panel filter and a remap and it will take it to 270bhp. Add a bigger turbo, injectors, intercooler and a remap and it will go to 350+

These bits are standard on the sti so are cheap for what you get. So you can add 130bhp for less than a grand, try that with a zed.

Planning on getting another zs as I still have a track day itch to scratch.:D

There are loads of good guys on forums etc and second hand stuff is plentiful. However some oe things are expensive. We got uprated head gaskets to go on. I think they were £150 for the pair?

Tbh if you've never driven one its a must. Quite comfy and suspension a lot less harsh than the zed. And very very well planted. Gives one a great feeling of confidence.

Think the pics speak for themselves. If only she had failed the block gas test we'd have saved loads and been pointed in the right direction earlier on instead of buying the donor engine. Still got to get everything checked out as we bought her with the fault so don't know if she's been cooked? Yet she drove as sweet as when I brought her home over 30 miles until we hit traffic lights then she gurgled some steam.

BY THE WAY GOT A CLOSED DECK SCOOBY ENGINE UP FOR GRABS TOO !

This is an older pic before we took her off the road for bodywork refurb. This one was used in Total Vauxhall Mags feature of her.

I had a gte 8v once. Loved the dash but it used more oil than petrol and my mate ran it out. That was the end of that.

CDB engine hmmmm

The Gsi is even better now. Home made grill, tail pipes, mud flaps etc etc etc

Yea been gone when we bought it Feb 2012. Been experimenting for a year trying to sort it. Lad also put a new exhaust on, shocks on rear, new rear discs and pads. Bigger four pots up front etc. Still went like stink when we ran it back end of last year though. Took it in mid January this year and got it back July in boxes but with a new mot. Well I say new, from bloody January so even lost 7months of that.
