I was in Timpsons earlier today and got a spare key cut as the original bendy one is starting to become really loose.

anyway the new one looks great but when i put it in the ignition, it turned fine to start the power, radio fans etc, but then became stiff and didn't want to force it and have it break. would say it was even stiffer trying to turn it to the left to take it out.
and on the drivers door, it would turn to the right to lock the car just fine, but wouldn't seem to turn left to unlock.

do you think its cause the key is brand new with sharp edges that will wear down or should i look to return and ask for another one cut?

Are the key profiles exactly the same?
Might be that the timpsons one is a little too short maybe?
Or slightly different profile.

just by looking they look the same, just the cuts look more rounded on the original key. Ill get a pic up and let you see

The newly cut left profile looks incorrect in some areas as too does the land on the left side, looks wider from the 'v'.

Looks to be slightly too long to me :/
Maybe try pushing a bit further in. ;)

You could try drifting out the pin at the bendy bit on your original key and replace it with a thicker one to remove the excess play you have :)

Not uncommon, a nail file will improve it.

As James says a kiss with a set of needle files will help.
