Hmm ... Now - the exhaust on mine is a bit short of the bumper .... ? Swap maybe ?

You got a hatch now then ?

Yes, MK2 in BRG. How much shorter? I can compare the two as have a mk2 hatch and saloon on the drive at the mo.

I wish it was, I've been told mk2 hatch backbox is longer than mk1 hatch backbox. Due to the skirt of the bumper being more straight down than curving back in towards the car as the mk1s do. That's why I thought a mk1 saloon backbox might be suitable length for the mk2 hatch.

Here's mine as it sits -

The question is how much would that protrude on a mk2 hatch? I'd quite happily swap it for the exhaust from my mk2 saloon as long as it fits without sticking out the back 6 inches.

What I need is someone that has both mk2 hatch and saloon backbox that could compare them for length. If the difference was like 3" then I think it should work. Hangers would be in the same location I imagine.

Measure your one from your saloon against the hatch. If it's over by 3 inches, then mine will be about right.

Mines an all in one custom job. Was originally from the manifold back but I had the sports cat flanged to length in case I went full decat. Did, sports cat sounded better so put it back on. So intermediate pipe and backbox are one piece from the cat, back. So unfortunately I can't measure just the backbox part.

Could you for sayings sake, measure from a fixed point on the cars...maybe directly from one of the hangers welded to the body to the tip of the exhaust and you would get a figure showing the difference that way?? :)

I'm such a tool! Why didn't I think of that. I'll measure off the fuel tank to the bumper heat Shield.

Coming off the bracket for the rear lower control arm, on the saloon to the outermost edge of the heatshield is 935mm. Hatch is 790mm. So the tip of your exhaust (ideally) would be no more than 800mm from they same point. Or 135mm back from the outside bit of the heatshield.

Well it ain't to pretty, in ain't even pretty good it'll do until I can source a decent mk2 hatch backbox.
