As of next Wednesday my zs is getting its clutch replaced with a new oe mg rover clutch and having its new sheddist master cylinder fitted at the same time. What are people's thoughts on the cost I've been quoted of £250 all in as when I look at the prices of the equivalent valeo (prob identical to the oe one) clutches they seem on a staff price to be around the £145 +vat area and then fitting on top.

I thought £250 for rover clutch and being fitted seemed quite reasonable?

On another note does anyone have a good throttle cable off of a 180 as mine is at its most wound off setting and still keeps sticking and giving me a "cruise control" symptom without the comfort factor as it holds over 3.5 in whichever gear its in so am looking to get that replaced too?
My mate is trying his usual port of call to see if a new one is avaliable but thought would also check here to see if anyone happened to have one kicking about :)

£250 supplied and fitted if it's a full kit - is a bargain. Mine cost £450 about 2 yrs ago.

Red's gone with her throttle cable I'm afraid pal.

That's a good price for a clutch replacement, don't forget to clean and lube the clutch operating arm.

The throttle cable may be too slack, they can be a pita to get set up just right.

That cool, thought it was quite a nice price especially when its a proper clutch too rather than some cheap nasty drivetec or national clutch.
He does usually look after me too. That's including fitting the replacement cylinder too.

That's cool Dan, when I was writing it I was thinking if it'd been a few weeks ago then I may have been able to get it before Red went. One of those things as usual.

That's cool Pete, I will mention it too them and ask if they could whilst its off. Think they will anyway as he's a MG specialist and has had 4 180s, 2 zt 190s, several zrs in different guises and more besides. Trust him 100% with the car.

The cable is actually wound off as much as it can be and is still keeping the throttle body and butterfly too tight when not depressed. I mean that it struggles to close the throttle flap fully as its always under tension from the cable seeming to be too short. Its been an ongoing issue but the temp fixes and remedys are now not fixing it for long enough and its really starting to wind me up.

Thanks for the advice on that though and also the link :)

That's odd with the cable, normally if you wind it right off it's droopier than a droopy thing, is it possible the cable has been changed previously and the wrong one fitted.

good price all in at £250. Now't wrong with original MG clutch.

That's what we're thinking as its now on its second throttle body as the first one the spring had weakened where it had been like that for too long or at least we imagine.

The V6 doesn't use the same cable as any other MG or Rover, so maybe someone fitted whatever they had available.

Oh no, he bought that off of my mate and is now selling on. I don't really know the guy that's got it now but he is not the guy I'm talking about.

May take you up in the throttle body Dan, just have to see what happens when the new cable gets fitted. If better hopefully wont need it but if not may need to try that again. Are you in a rush to get rid of it or actively trying to sell it at present?

Just sat in the shed mate - just let me know if you want it and I'll dig it out.

Does sound cheap to me mate. Just make sure he fits what he quotes for I no a few garages who tell customers its a genuine part and its not.

Yes make sure it's a V6 clutch not a 4 pot. That is a flipping good price, i was quoted £400plus.

I know what your all saying. It is a genuine 180 clutch and release bearing as I've seen them and they were originally bought to fit to his earlier this year but didnt need it. He basically has let me have the clutch kit for £100 and fitting is £150 and they have done several including his dads late last year.
He's my very close mate and best man in march too so he won't be screwing me over and will be doing and fitting exactly what's been said.
He wouldn't hear the end of it otherwise :)

To be fair at mates rates £150 is a little over for fitting a clutch on a 180
its a mornings work
but at £250 all in inc gen clutch defo a good price

£250 is a bargain, I paid £315 all in a couple of months ago using Mr Clutch, that includes a 2 year 25000 warranty.

Well yeah once the clutch is in, master cylinder swapped over, new cable is in place and then the £250 handed over hopefully the car will be behaving much more than current.

Its technically paying for use of another unit too in the cost as he can't do it on his current ramp so he's borrowing a unit down the estate with a better 2 poster for the job.
That way his other 2 ramps can stay within use for the other 2 guys in the workshop too. Its may seem a bit steep as you say on a "mates rates" but at the end of the day for everything being done and being guaranteed I will know exactly how its been treated whilst there I don't think its over priced at all on that front.
Appreciate all the opinions guys, seems is a good deal then and hopefully as I say will be back to how it should be once all done. :)

I sometimes either have a touch of cruise or an on/off moment when I lift off. I noticed the other day that the cable is rubbing on the aircon plpe so must be catching - another job for another day.

Its a bit unnerving when going along at 70 and lifting off expecting it to slow but it either holds or slightly accelerates. Not a nice feeling when at those speeds as you usually only let off because you have too :(
