Right this is nothing to do with zeds so sorry. Its to do Peugeot Partner.....I have posted on the pug forums but no-one is answering!

Right, had a load of stuff to bring down to the mother in law's (350 miles one way) so thought I would use the pug van. Filled it up on Thursday night and took it to work Friday to make sure all was well (its only had occasional use). Set off last night and got down to Tain which is about 70 miles South and a quarter of a tank had gone......its a 2.0 hdi. So filled up again and my car fuel app said I was getting 34.6 mpg....it only has 90hp and is the shape of a shed so I can't really rag it! From Tain down to Balloch I had the cruise control on and was either doing 60mph or 70mph ......or 45 for a bit behind lorries! I had reset my on board computer and after another 3/8 of a tank it said my average mpg was 38.2mpg which is sh*te. The book says 59 mpg on a run. Seemed to be doing around 50 mpg around 45 mph using the real time on board mpg display.

I have peugeot planet which you hook up to the obd and it lets you basically do anything a garage can do. It had felt sluggish so about 3 months ago I read the fault codes and the MAF was goosed. Replaced that and the faults cleared and it had more grunt. Unplugged the EGR but it developed a shudder at 1500 rpm so am not convinced its closed properly.

Anyway brought the lead and netbook and hooked it up today and no fault codes......not one. So had a look at the real time parameters. The EGR is open 95% at idle and closes when rev'd so I think thats ok. Although when I did a EGR solonoid test I couldnt hear it working. The air flow values (and I can't remember what they were called) but the air sensor was about 100 behind the MAF at tick over but when rev'd they evened out. So does it sound like the air sensor is goosed? The van is well serviced with a recent oil change, oil filter, fuel filter and air filter fitted. Bleed offs are metal so no leak there, in fact no obvious fuel leaks......checked the floor and round the engine bay. It just seems to be over fuelling all the time.

Help please!!

Remeber if its full it will use more fuel, could be a number of things, oxygen sensors, dodgy injector ect ect, Argyll diesel would be the people to talk to,

blank off egr with a coke can or similar, just as a test to see if makes any difference.

But wouldn't something somewhere through up a fault code? Planet splits the car down into ecu's etc and there isn't a single fault code in any of them. The injector compensation values (if thats what they are called) were at 116% and 87%......not sure if thats good or bad lol

Back up North tomorrow and there isnt any diesel specialists up there so was hoping to sort it myself.......although usually planet says what is goosed and I just change it out

Thanks Ritchy and Mark. Think I will blank the EGR and see if that helps......but will have till im home as i dont have the tools here.

Thought it might be the brakes but have changed the front calipers, discs and pads and they spin free. Backs are drums and I had to stop them spinning they were that free!

you may be able to unplug maf, again just as a test, if it feels the same or better, the maf may need replacing.

I have a BMC panel filter in my one and cleaned it out the other day.

Surprising how much muck came out of it.

Got to have an air box somewhere on the Pug, if its not been changed or got water into the box. Could be cutting down the air flow.

I always put Miller sports oil in the derv to boost my one a bit.

Dont know if this helps.

And what you need to change.

It doesnt have an intercooler so thats out.

The MAF plug has a green wire that seems to have been cut at the block but there is no green cable in the loom coming from it. The van goes well with the new MAF .....well as well as a shed with 90 ponies can!

Is the turbo kicking in properly? Check that little vac actuated turbo solenoid?

It seems to be.....its pretty dead up to 2100 rpm then the turbo kicks in. Before changing the MAF it was pretty much dead throughout the rev range!

Had a look to see if other people were getting the mpg, found this.

Thanks peter.....was getting high 40's a few months ago so not accepting 35. Just stopped at Halfords Stirling and fitted new air filter, everything reset so 300 miles North and we will see what we get!

Well 99 miles on and the air filter has made little difference. Its been slow with several lorries so my average speed has been 52mph with cruise control on pretty much all the time. What I have noticed is that if I stay under 2100 rpm then mpg is alway above 50 and mostly in the 60's. Go above this rpm and the mpg is down to the 30's so my average mpg is 40.9. Im thinking turbo now as this is whrn it kicks in. Even though it doesnt have an intercooler im guessing it has turbo hoses? If one was split it would put less air in and more fuel?

When I popped the turbo pipe to the intercooler, I couldnt drive it above 1500/2000 revs. Power fell off and clouds of lightish smoke.

Someone on the other post said about checking all the turbo pipes.

Sensors could be out, was the maf sensor a known make and not a Chinese one???
