Unfortunately went through a puddle car stopped managed to get it going again but there's is a vibration at idle, after having it checked by the garage they've confirmed that cylinder 3 is sitting at a lower height than the others. I haven't got the time or money to repair the car so will sell it spares or repairs or scrap it. Absolutely gutted :(

How much was the quote then? When I bent mine in September, the mech charged me 400 Euro but thats because he also changed a few other parts and reconditioned the engine while it was out. So it should be cheaper than that and it only took a week. Check a few places because it might be worth it.

problem is, even though you could get an engine for £200, you would pay at least that again having it swapped.
Yet you can buy a ZS for £400 and likely get 200 for yours with a bent engine.
It is hard to justify the cost of fixing it.

I was quoted at least £1500 to do it, which I just can't justify their fantastic cars and I've enjoyed every minute of owning mine but this is one repair to far. Even if you replace the rod and piston there's no telling what damage has been done to the crankshaft and bore

Shame ....

Get it on ebay spares or repair as it stands. Someone might fancy it and throw a T16 in there - or there might be another 180 out there with a great engine, but other issues so they would transplant the engine into your car.

Gutted for you mate id cry if that happened to my zed . Was you on the standard induction or did you have inner wing cone and is that why it sucked in the water ?

Just the standard factory set up I'm gutted about it, it was a fantastic car with the engine being the best part. It will be going on eBay in due course maybe someone else will fancy the challenge of rebuilding it or a t16 conversion as you say.

Such a shame, they are dropping like flies :(
Is it really not worth paying a garage to swop a decent second hand engine in, would certainly be much less than the £1500 you've been quoted.

£1500 is a wild price, what was that quote actually to do.

To replace the conrod and piston, it was a rover specialist who I've used on several occasions and never had a problem with so I'll take their word for it.

It's a minefield really it could of damaged the crankshaft and the bore so then your talking even more money on top of that

I'm loathe to see it scrapped though as it's in good shape otherwise hopefully someone else will take it on when it goes on ebay

I'd buy a decent used engine tbh, they are not that expensive these days, I think you'd struggle to find a new piston and rod assy.

£220 for a piston and rod and xpart don't recognize the part numbers.

I think I'll just replace it and take the good bits off it, don't think another car could quite put the smile on my face this one does so on the look out for another 180
