After watching topgear it got me thinking, what was your first or fav hot hatch.
Ide like to start with my beloved little AX GT. Only a 1.4 but weighed nothing so it went like stink.

Funny you should put this thread up, after last nights TOP GEAR I went 80's car browsing online and would love to have this we belter http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RENAULT-5-GT-TURBO-TRACK-READY-RESTORED-SHELL-1-8-16V-CONVERSION-/121267604261?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item1c3c1ccb25
I always liked the styling of the 205 GTi's.... or the not quite hot hatch 309's...
my friend still has his 205 GTi he bought for a banger rally a number of year ago (had to be less then £100 to qualify to be used in the event)- it needs huge welding work every year for the MOT, but he does it all anyway even after moaning about it repeatedly!
Still like my MG Metro, still going strong (more or less) and 27 years old.

Well it has to be the HS Chevette of which I used to own a rare 1 of 10 HSX.

I always remember my best friend had a nova Gsi with a red top. He painted it rover nightfire red and put a set of 16 inch gold Super T's on it. At the time I loved it.
I also had a friend who bought a mint Renault 5 GT Turbo off Jamie Shaw. Ran great for a while then just started eating turbos. Cost him a fortune.

One of these, under rated by most people back in the 80's when they were current, cheap in the nineties, and change hands for strong money now.

One of these, ...
I used to do work experience with Bill McLaren (RIP) - PE at the primary schools in the morning and rugby in the afternoon - and he had one of those Corollas. Used to drop me home afterwards which was 7 miles of country roads. He used to drive it very well .... Great car in it's day.

Bought a Volvo 440 Turbo for my dad when he blew up the 1600 Maestro.
Too quick for him, was in his nineties, so he gave it to me.
One London owner 26, 000 miles, he was a accountant and had it serviced every 6 months. H reg so was about 15 years old. Everything worked and went like stink. Even had a green light, round the key hole, to show you where the key went at night!!!
Did surprise a few of the newer hot hatches, when this green, rusty old Volvo, gave them a run for their money.

What about the saxo vts, I had one as a demo when I was a salesman for Arnold Clark. Use to race my mate In his nova gsi (redtop), I could always pull away In the corners but as soon as the road straightened he left me for dead.

Well I never owned a HOT HATCH, couldnt afford it. Had my MK2 RS1800 instead but was the envy of my mates when as a 19yr old for two weeks I drove round in a brand new XR3i.
Was my brothers company car and he let me borrow it while he was on holiday, to take him and pick him up from his honeymoon............I clocked up a few miles....
Great thread
I had a few nice hot hatches back in the day,
Mk2 3.0 S Capri
Lancia Delta Turbo
Mk2 Escort RS Turbo
An assortment of other stuff but it was my dream to own the Honda CRX, which I eventually purchased in 2003/4 and still own, real drivers car
