Hi

I am planning to replace front and rear discs and pads tomorrow.

Just read the how to guide and I mentions a piston wind back tool for the rears.

Can it still be done without this tool ?

Thanks

Craig..

Yep, use a wide blade screw driver or a steel ruler.

As above just make sure the rubber boot round the piston doesn't snag :)

Good tip ;) twist it slow is my advice.

The spanner for an angle grinder works well as well.

And only wind the pistons clockwise

All good advice above.

A couple of other things, a clean with some wd40 and a nylon brush where the dust seal fits round the piston lessens the chance of the dust seal turning with the piston, and also when the piston is wound fully in it might need a slight turn to make sure the legs of the recessed cross in the face of the piston are straight up and down, and straight forward and back.

Well front brakes done..

Was a bit harder as I had to drill the disc screws out and re tap them.

Nice drilled and grooved front breaks fitted.

Will do the rears but will buy the tool first.

Catch tank fitted but not connected up the hisses will do it during the week.

The car size getting there now....

Thanks people...

Looking good, just watch one of the catch tank pipes, bit of a kink near the joinig point and may close off under vacumn. If your getting running problems in the future check that first:)

Yes see what you mean
I think it's the pick as there's no kink when seen in the flesh so to speak...

Good stuff mate, have had problems myself like that. Was often a kink or just the piping being too thin.

Looks tidy though, good work and looking forward to seeing more pics;)

Thought I would do the rear brakes at the weekend.

The bolts on the back of the calliper were too hard to remove .

Got the top one off eventually with a socket but there was not enough room to put it on the bottom one and the spanner would not loosen it ...

Had to give up....

Anyone had this issue and if so how did you remove the bolt ?

A ring spanner and hammer may work to shock them loose, try tightening first, then loosening, the chances are that it's just the head of the bolt rusted to the caliper, once you break that rust it'll turn out pretty easily.

Took mine to a garage, them bolts weren't for shifting! Ended up using a torch to get them off.
