As some are aware myself and Kate have been looking for sometime at selling off our Civic Type R and returning to MG. This is for many reasons:

1. Miss the scene and fellow owners - other clubs just seem up their own a*se
2. Its how me and Kate first met
3. The way the cars made us feel
4. Financial - Want a big holiday and to finally sort our Garden out.

For those that don't know me or Kate here are a few of our previous projects.

My old 105 ZR

Thats what we have had including a TF 135 but Kate hated that only a week after owning it so nothing really happened with it lol.

So Now....We are back in...

This :D

He is called Archie as Kate names all our cars lol. As you can see he is a 2002 180 in Le Mans Green, he has been fully converted to a MK2 exterior but retained the MK1 interior so to us its the best of both worlds. This is by far the cleanest ZS we viewed that was for sale and had to snap it up, Keith was a gent and held the car for a couple of weeks while the Civic sold. A great bloke to talk to and a pleasure to do business, thanks mate for letting him go :)

Had a bargain at Halfords today, £80 head unit down to £49.50. USB, Aux IN etc ideal replacement for the Mini Disk Player that was in it. Kates small hands and intelligence came in handy when fitting it, forgot how much of a PITA it was fitting a head unit to a ZS. Check the wiring loom on the old unit...

Well its been a couple of up and down weeks for Archie, on one side he picked up 2nd Place at Harrogate MG Show and his 2nd Trophy of the year and on the other we have spent a fair amount fixing and changing bits to get him performing his best.

Whilst on the way back from Harrogate I thought that Archie wasn't performing great and so I asked about the OE airbox that I had just put in. As educated on here its designed for the 2.0 V6....sooooo since I sold the K&N It meant upgrading to the ITG Maxogen...That was something Kate insisted on, so far be it from me to argue with the lady of the house :)

What a difference!!! Ok we spent £300+ on a Air filter but its worth it...that was until Mr Inlet Manifold decided it had had enough...

So rather than buying 2nd hand and for it to all go wrong again we opted for a brand new unit from Perry's MG over at Huddersfield. We paid £485 which may sound a lot but that included new VIS and Purge Valve, plus the guy behind the counter asked me what colour the car was and he threw a MG Rover touch up set to ease the pain :)

That was on Wednesday and come Saturday Nick over at Maxteds garage managed to fit me at short notice and get it all fitted.

Archie now is a changed car! He drives so smooth and quick of the mark it makes me wonder how long it had been down on power.

So...now its beans on toast for the rest of the month...maybe a year...

petet16
17-08-14, 01:21 PM
Add some chilli powder to the beans for a change of flavour, I understand where your coming from with the plenum, I think if mine went I'd be tempted to spring for a new one as well.

Oh, cars looking great as well:yes:

I know what you mean about changing the feel of the car, in the last couple of weeks I've replaced the clutch slave and mount bracket, fitted my exhaust (resolving several issues), BMC CDA and some new wheels and tyres - car is soo much nicer to drive.

I managed to pick up a nearly new plenum from the local scrap yard that must have been fitted as a replacement on the ZT as it's manufacture date was late 2010, it's in the shed waiting for the current one to fail.

Bah, who cares what the market, or facebook, says our cars are worth. Maintenance is maintenance and I don't see the connection with cars value unless repairing to sell. With that logic, the costs of belts, tyres, exhausts etc, there would be none left on the road at all!

I hopefully have some goodies on the way this Christmas :)

New Bits fitted:

> Apex 30mm lowering springs for a Civic Aerodeck - a lot of phone calls were made direct to make sure that they fit correctly and they would take the weight of the KV6). I would say go out and get some but I bought the last set and have since been discontinued :)
