Hi,
So i bought my new 180 after owning an XPG VVC conversion. I wanted something bigger and more enjoyable to run.

I bought the car off the MG forums. Was advised the Engien light was on due to Lambar sensor. Having owned the car for a day, I woke up to a completely seized engine. So I was given no choice but to source a new engine and get cracking with getting it up and running.

Engine was sourced. £200 60k full runner. Engine was picked up locally and my and my friend removed the old lump.

From these engines we pulled both apart and went for 1 completely perfect runner. So best parts from each was used.

Engine went in with no issues what so ever!

Once engine was in, we found an abundance of problems, Slave cylinder was knackered for some reason, Power steering pump was leaking and battery had given up! all things I was happy to live with!

Car is done. Running with a couple of niggly problems but gets me to and from work!

next on the agenda is:

remap to see what fuel consumption I may be able to salvage from a 180

touch up paintwork as gazebo used when changing engine scratched roof and bonnet!

rear door 180 kit replacing

rear bumper respraying (previous owner had bump)

Reset all ECU codes (Engine light still on)

Light tints

Full brake and disc change

Big and heavy when out of the engine bay aren't they! I miss the days of an engine swap with just a couple of leads and a couple of hoses to remove and ident!

monsters! the amount of room to get it in and out is insane! suprisingly it fit in like a glove getting new engine in, literally took 2 attempts with the crane to hoist back up and drop it onto mounts, couldnt believe it.

Great job - most people these days just seem to end up breaking them up with even less problems than you have had.

well done :)

thanks! i was at a complete loss and couldnt afford another car, literally had £300 left so it meant get the car repaired for less than £300 OR get a shockingly bad car for that price and sell for parts....

MG won!

so 1 year on and car is still running! got small leak on rocker covers but fitted new clutch kit 2 weeks ago and its still going strong. done 20K miles in a year as its on 79k now. just goes to show, give an MG a bit of love and TLC regularly and they do repay you in fun and enjoyment!

That's nuts, did the previous owner have any idea why the engine seized ?

quite simply was abused as a racing street car, I should of known when he took me on a test drive and ragged it to high heaven.

That's a shame, he was really lucky it didn't let go on the test drive then.

Its done by a bloke who works for Nissan doing all paint correction. He has his 2 car garage done out as a spray booth. if its good enough for Nissan New cars, itll be good enough for a 10 year old ZS:rofl:

Nice one - mine could do with a respray but if I'm spending that much on it I should get the belts done first.

Just a little update from my engine Rebuild, Ive moved onto the paintwork, Although its been well looked after with claybarring sessions and plenty of washes, I treat myself to sorting the problem areas out, specifically the rear end which had been involved in a bump before I bought it. Had it resprayed including a machine polish and sealant.

Results are as follows.

Really .....

Never have seen the attraction for those wheels over the standard 11 spokes personally .... but hey .... if we were all the same .... blah blah ....

Love the look of a Red ZS with graphite wheels.

Yeah i suppose each to their own, ill be doing the wheels the same colour as they have a slight glitter effect when in the light.

also just topped up coolant with water 500ml's, nothing major but considering Ive done 1500 miles since last checking, I thought I best keep an eye on it. grand scheme of things its at a rating of 2/10 for concerning me

talkingcars

500ml as in half a litre - that sounds quite a bit to me and should have triggered the low level warning.

hansligg

No lights were triggered, i dont think ive ever seen the coolant light come on in fact. It does when starting the car up then goes off as usual

When the low level light comes on in mine it takes about 500ml to take it up to Max

It might have just been above that line then. the 500ml's did take it just over the max line

Just a little (pic heavy) update of my 180 over the last couple of months:

Had a new clutch plate and repaired the Bracket, due to be fitted with Sheddist clutch when I can source funds.

Now all mechanical issues have been dealt with, I decided to attack the body, more specifically the imperfections and first on my list was the scuff on the front bumper where I dinged a car at traffic lights,

Front bumper respray along with full machine polish removing swirls and all light scratchings:

http://s33.postimg.org/orkppap8v/scuff.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
image share (http://postimage.org/)

I then decided to change the alloy wheel colours as they were looking old, tired and scuffed to high heaven!

This all happened within a week, the Alloy wheel colour will be much like love or hate but ill leave it here:

Whilst the alloys were being refurbished, i decided to go the full hog and get light tints on the rears to add to the look I was going for. the next plan is to add the same tints to the fronts, subtle yet effective.

Next little modification was purchasing a set of these charver-looking rear aftermarket lights:

http://s33.postimg.org/sz2oj3wwf/lights_1.jpg (http://postimage.org/)
image hosting over 5mb (http://postimage.org/)

decided to go with red tint spray but blanking off the indicators and reverse lights, hoping it all turned out as standard as possible without looking charver-ish:

image hosting 5mb (http://postimage.org/)

Turned out they look pretty good and very much a one-off:

Fitted them to the car but after a little struggle with bolts as they had rusted on:

picture upload (http://postimage.org/)

Now for the Valeting from Maximus Valeting, took him all Sunday but now i have a finished product apart from front tints. I got the car back, new alloys, tints and freshly machine polished to within an inch of its life, I gave it the whole hog of wash, wax, sealant and inside and out thorough clean from Maximus Valeting £50 I cant complain.

very much different from the normal Gloss Black or White we are used to on Red MG's or Red cars for that matter, luckily it seems to work

Definitely, I've always liked that sort of 'bronzey' colour on wheels.
